Empty Quarter style="width: 250px; height: 350px; border: solid 1px black; float: right; clear: left"

Empty Quarter Sector is on the Imperial Fringe, a crossroads area between the Third Imperium and the Julian Protectorate, divided by the Lesser Rift. It is an area with a long legacy of civilization and multi-species habitation, with old settlement from Droyne, the native Bwaps, Humans, Sydites, Vargr, and other sophont species. It was first settled by Imperials during the time of the First Imperium, the Ziru Sirka. It is an extremely rich cultural region.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Empty Quarter, despite its name, is anything but. It is full of life, vibrant independent polities, a flourishing culture, and dynamic populations. It is not, however, a rich sector in the material sense, being somewhat impoverished.

The Imperial population of the sector is largely Solomani-descended in the current age, while most people in the wider Imperium know the Empty Quarter as the place that Bwaps are originally from. The coreward part of the sector is Julian Protectorate space, most notably the Ikonaz Vargr-Vilani culture of the Rukadukaz Republic.

Toponyms: 1105[edit]

Sector Nomenclature[edit]

'Non-canon: The Imperials within the sector generally view themselves as Imperials or citizens of their homeworlds. Unlike the residents of Ilelish or Core sectors, most don't identify themselves closely to their rather backward sector.

  • Usually, Imperials within the sector are called Imperials or Impies.
  • In formal discussion, the Imperial citizens of the Empty Quarter are referred to as Gushgusi.
  • Colloquially, they are called Emptyheads by Imperials.
  • Protectorate citizens are generally referred to by their member state: Rukadur or Republicans for citizens of the Rukadukaz Republic, and...
  • Loreans or Hegemonio for subjects of the Lorean Hegemon.

Linguistic Topography: 1105[edit]

The following languages are among the most commonly encountered within this astrographic region:

Languages of Humaniti:
  • Arabic: An old Terran language that still sees use.
  • Arzulan: A series of largely related languages granted state recognition by the Lorean Hegemony.
  • Various other, local languages may be heard on Lorean worlds, but have no government support.
Languages of Vargr:
  • Irilitok: The language family of the most populous Vargr phenotype and ethnic culture within the Julian Protectorate.
  • Ovaghoun: The language family of a populous Vargr phenotype and ethnic culture.
  • Evrgoer: The most common Suedzuk dialect within modern Lorean space.
Languages of Major & Pervasive non-Human Races:
  • Oynprith: The ritualistic and ceremonial language used by Droyne communities throughout Charted Space.
  • Wawa-pakekeke-wawa: The common, precise and bureaucratic language of the Bwaps. Spoken on Bwap-dominated planets and by government functionaries on any world lucky enough to retain a dedicated Bwap workforce.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

This is an area with a long legacy of civilization and multi-species habitation, albeit also punctuated by historical violence between Humans and Vargr. The Droyne have long had a quiet presence, while the Bwaps are native to this sector.

Native Sophonts: 1105[edit]

The following races (sophont species) are believed to have originated within this area:

Demographics: 1105[edit]

Significant populations of the following races (sophont species) reside within this area:

  • Humaniti (Human races)
    • Arzula, a blend of Vilani and Solomani (largely Slavic and Arab) with a distinct cultural heritage
    • Iper'Mar: Coreward Belk Clan
    • Solomani (Major Race) (the most populous cultures being of Arabic and South Asian Hindu origin)
      • There are also the Sesheryn, who developed from an independent trading culture during the Long Night and speak an Aaca-Anglic creole, due to a long history of close trading ties with the Luriani.
      • The Lazisari ethnic culture is also considered distinct.
    • Sydites
    • Vilani (Major Race)

Vargr Connections[edit]

The sector's Alpha Quadrant has been dominated by various Ikonaz governments since -1700, during the tail end of the Vargr Pillaging, and the Imperium has ruled its portion of the Empty Quarter since the mid-60s Imperial.

Faith and Belief[edit]

A number of religious faiths and political philosophies are followed within the sector:

  • Abadani: A communistic, Human-supremacist philosophy, at one point prominent in parts of the Imperial Empty Quarter.
  • Baha'i: A monotheistic religion focused on the unity of sophont experience.
  • Hinduism
  • Islam
  • Kikhushegi: A religion that combines Vilani ritualism with Islamic roots.
  • Shirga Mysteries: A religion popular among non-Humans (Vargr, Plexxans, etc.)
  • Unified Cultus of the Deified Man: State religion of the Hegemony of Lorean. The central drive of this religion is to prepare all mankind for godhood, led by a Deified Man, created by scientific, materialistic means. This is an extremely martial and disciplined religion; while the Cultus itself is less than five centuries old, it is the descendant of a long chain of similar militaristic, historically anti-Vargr religions. Marching chants and mass drill-like ceremonies dominate public worship.
  • Wapawab: The quasi-religious philosophy intrinsic to the Bwap worldview.

Politics & Diplomacy (Interstellar Relations)[edit]

The Empty Quarter is divided into roughly four quarters:

The Lesser Rift fills most of Delta Quadrant, and an arm of the Rift separates Imperial Space from:

Both the Rukadukaz Republic and the Hegemony of Lorean are members of the Julian Protectorate.

  • Independent systems are lightly scattered on the edge of the Lesser Rift, and dominate the buffer zone between the Hegemony and the Republic. A small group of Imperial client states, led by Tokitre, also lie between these two powers.

This astrographic region is dominated by the presence of the Lesser Rift. The Lesser Rift provides a natural barrier between the rimward zone dominated by the Third Imperium and the coreward areas dominated by the Julian Protectorate and the Vargr Extents. This is an area of low to medium stellar density.
