Aeghzivik has an ideal environment and a balance of available water for producing food from plants, animals, or other lifeforms. The system supports a population in the 100s of millions, which makes it too urbanized to be an agricultural world. It is a member of Julian Protectorate in the Tsahrroek Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Rukadukaz Republic. 80% of the world's population is the Major Race Vargr. This world was known as Ligi Khimudam and later renamed Madhi.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
History and Background[edit]
Aeghzivik is the most aggressively Vargr-supremacist world in the Rukadukaz Republic, and has been for quite a long time now. At one time, it was called Madhi, a member of the Glorious Twelve that led the Human resistance against the Vargr Pillaging. The reduction of Madhi was a long, grinding, and bitter affair, with the end result being the extermination of the original Solomani population by Ikonaz Vargr forces. The leadership of these military forces decided to leave behind their Vilani allies for this conflict -- over the vigorous objections of said Vilani servants.
Currently, most of the Vargr population of this Notable World has rejected the Vilani/Vargr synergistic religions that dominate most of the Rukadukaz Republic, instead turning to the young and vigorous Church of the Chosen Ones and its doctrine of Vargr supremacy.
The Human, largely Vilani population that makes up about 20% of the planetary population are quite careful regarding what they say and do in the presence of the dominant Vargr, and rely on high-charisma Ovaghoun Vargr patrons for their continued survival. The Vargr of this world not only reject most Human influence and mores: they are also more tuned-in to the greater Vargr society of the Vargr Extents, and are more welcoming of non-Ovaghoun Vargr than most worlds of the Republic. As a result, the system is quite cosmopolitan -- for strictly Vargr definitions of cosmopolitan. As the beliefs of the world's Vargr population shifts to conform to their newly adopted religion, they increasingly dislike the Human leadership of the Julian Protectorate, and the heavily Human-influenced culture of the pro-Vilani Ovaghoun. And yet, seeing that they would be heavily outnumbered and quite likely ground to dust in any rebellion, they have decided to keep their hostility verbal and intellectual, instead of physical and kinetic. "Any hunter knows when to stalk the prey, and when to strike it down".
World Starport[edit]
Aeghzivik has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Demographics[edit]
80% Vargr, 20% Human.
Although the world of Aeghzivik is home to both Vargr and Human, local laws and customs consider Humans to be second class citizens. While Human offworlders may apply for certain exemptions, in general it is ill-advised for a Human to visit Aeghzivik without a very charismatic Vargr companion. Human traders need to lay down a network of protective, high-charisma local Vargr before setting foot on this world. Robbery and harassment at best, and a very bloody death at worst, awaits the unwary. Vargr traders need to visit regularly, if they want to keep a perked-up ear on what's happening in the rest of the Vargr Extents, especially in the Vargr-dominated regions outside of the Julian Protectorate.
The Ikonaz world where the Irilitok are most respected is Aeghzivik: here, the Humans are clearly second-class citizens, holding fewer rights than on most Ovaghoun worlds -- but the Irilitok, being Vargr, are treated as actual equals, despite their history as bred slaves.
Adherents to the Church of the Chosen Ones religious movement maintain a strong presence here, particularly in the theocratic nation of Soervadoek, which maintains the primary starport for the system.
World Languages[edit]
- Ikonaz Vargr: A form of the dominant Ovaghoun language in the Ikonaz Sphere (and so in the Rukadukaz Republic).
- Ikonaz Vilani: A variant of the above altered to suit Human vocalization.
- Irilitok
World Timeline[edit]
Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within include the following:
- c. -1770: Twelve Human worlds in Empty Quarter Sector lead the fight in resisting Vargr conquerors, even after the collapse of the Rule of Man. Aeghzivik, then known as Madhi, is one of these Glorious Twelve.
- -1711: Near the end of the Vargr Pillaging, the proto-Ovaghoun conquer the world of Ikon.
- Over time, the local Vilani culturally overrun their Vargr overlords, reshaping the Ovaghoun Vargr into a distinct, almost hybridised culture.
- -55: The Mmoannikh Accords between representatives of Logaksu Vargr and Ovaghoun Vargr societies ends a series of conflicts between the two cultures.
- The Accords are rejected by the central Ikonaz government, leading to a shattering of the unity of the Ovaghoun.
- 175-191: The Julian War, which sees numerous attacks on Ikon, all of which fail in breaking the homeworld of the Ovaghoun.
- The Ikonaz become a prominent member bloc of the Julian Protectorate.
- Circa 723: The Association of Good Wolves, the current government of Ikon, encourages the emigration of the working (i.e. Irilitok Vargr) classes to other, nearby worlds -- going so far as to subsidise 70% of the cost involved.
- Circa 937-940: The Fellowship of Nobles, the current Ikonaz government, collapses.
- The Rukadukaz Republic is founded as the government of the Ikonaz Sphere in the aftermath.
- 942: The Julian Protectorate and the Hegemony of Lorean formally sign the Treaty of Var-Inaka (restricting naval basing) and the Julian Concord, incorporating the Hegemony into the Protectorate.
- The Rukadukaz insist upon a 'buffer zone' of neutral systems between their territory and the Loreans.
