Gobi has both an unbreathable thin atmosphere and a lack of surface water making habitation by sophonts difficult. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Gimushi Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Domain of Antares. Gobi, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world.

History and Background[edit]

Outsiders, who loved the wildness of the sector but disliked the locals, chose to make this world their base of operation around 240 Imperial, during the False Dawn era.

The Silent Ones, Gobi, 980 Imperial. These are the only surviving remains of a Minor Human Race on Gobi: they date to around -15,000 Imperial, 10,000 years before the arrival of the Vilani. Long a complete mystery, it is now felt that Gobi was a colony world of the “Stille”. Extensive ruins of this race were found on Urmair (Empty Quarter 1229) in 958, and are the focus of an Imperial Scout Base there. It is believed that both the Gobi colony and the Urmair homeworld died due to the lack of water, coupled with a failed transition to a space-borne economy.

After the Rim War is over, the IISS plans to comb both systems for relics of this extinct STL-capable species, looking for ancient spacecraft, satellites, and abandoned moon bases.

Imperial High (Landed) Nobility[edit]
