Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]
Centrally held map of the world within AAB Library Data records.
- Surface Map of Terra showing Continents & Oceans [2]
Continents & Regions of Terra:
Terra has eight recognized continental masses: Africa, North & South America, Asia & Europe (together comprising the supercontinent of Eurasia), Australia & Zealandia, and Antarctica. Terra no longer maintains large permanent polar ice caps as it once did, much of its polar regions being ether open ocean or dry land.
Eurasia (Continent)[edit]
During the early years of the Long Night, much of the West Siberian Plain was flooded, creating a new arm of the Arctic Ocean called the Yamalian Sea of approximately the same size as the Mediterranean Sea. Combined with the warming climate, much of Siberia has become a fertile and agriculturally productive area.
- Europe (Subcontinent/Region)
- The European subcontinent of western Eurasia is home to 1 billion people, mostly around the Mediterranean Sea region. Northern Europe is a quiet region full of preserved towns and cities, where many ancient folkways endure. The University of Terra is centered in Europe, with major campuses in Paris, Berlin, and Stockholm.
- Middle East (Subcontinent/Region)
- The Southwest Asian region historically known as the "Middle East" remains a largely arid and somewhat rocky region punctuated by arable land along riverbeds, lakes and oases.
- It is a region conscious of its own long history and maintains many ancient languages and folkways. The area once known as Mesopotamia in Central-West Eurasia has seen a fair amount of Vilani settlement, and the Lebanon region of the Levant on the Mediterranean coast hosts a colony of Cassildan extraction.
- Asia (Continental Region)
- Eastern Asia has remained a somewhat culturally insular region for thousands of years and is one of the few significant regions of the planet where people still use a native ancestral language (Guanhua) as their first language as opposed to Anglic.
- The South Asian Indian subcontinent has, oddly, seen a fair amount of Vilani settlement. Many ancient native Terran folkways endure in these regions as well.
Africa (Continent)[edit]
The great northern region once known as the Sahara Desert during the pre-starflight era has been mostly reclaimed and converted into a multi-million hectare stretch of arable farmland. A hydrological project begun during the Rule of Man caused the flooding of the Qattara Depression in the old Libyan Desert region and the diversion of the Nile River, forming the inland Qattara Sea and bringing a cooler, moister climate to much of the Sahara region. Very little desert terrain remains, save for a few small regions in the Western Sahara preserved for ecological purposes.
- The "AECO (Africa-Europe Cooperation Organization) Starport" lies on the shores of the flooded Chott Djerid, in what was once eastern Algeria. The African continent is prosperous and cosmopolitan (particularly in the southern region about Johannesburg, the Terran Financial Center), with the most advanced Imperial technology available there. Southern Africa is the busiest financial district on the planet, with the Terran Exchange headquartered in old Johannesburg, although most of the trade occurs on the global information network.
The Americas (World Region)[edit]
The two continents comprising "The Americas" constitute the entirety of the landmass in the Terran Western Hemisphere.
- South America (Continent)
- The interior of the South American continent is largely one of jungle and tropical rain forest, hydrated by the waters of the Amazon River basin.
- The South American continent is the modern center of Terran civilization. Most of the population lives along the coastal areas, the interior of the continent remaining sparsely settled. The capital of Terra and the Sol system as a whole is the city of Rio de Janeiro in the province of Brasilia. High in the Andes Mountain Range on the shores of Lake Titicaca lies the Imperial Residence. Originally built as the official residence of the Solomani Confederation Secretary-General in 876, the estate has since become the residence of the planet's Imperial military governor, Imperial Army General Stanislav Gasai, and more recently has been slated to be the residence of Terra's assigned Imperial noble.
- North America (Continent)
- The North American continent is covered by significant temperate forest in its northwestern extents but has also lost much of its Western Californian coastline and its Eastern and Caribbean coastline to encroaching ocean since pre-starflight Terra. Its current eastern coast north of the Caribbean Island of Florida has become densely populated, as has some of the coastal area about the Great Lakes region.
- Most of the population of North and Central America live in the regions of old Mexico or the Caribbean, which is today one of the most densely populated regions of the planet and home to many of the planet's most aggressive entrepreneurs. There is a continuous line of arcologies and undersea cities stretching the entire distance from Boston to Trinidad. Phoenix-Mesa Starport (a.k.a. "Starport Paulo") is located in the southwestern region of the North American continent, just southwest of the city of Phoenix. Over two-thirds of Terra's merchant traffic passes through this one starport. Like several other ancient cities, the North American city of New York has been preserved (and protected from higher sea levels) by being encased within a giant transparent dome.
Oceania/Pacifica & Australia (World Region)[edit]
Oceania is an expansive region including the various Pacific Islands (Polynesia, Micronesia, Melanesia), Zealandia, and Australia. The continent of Zealandia lies off the east coast of the Australian continent and is mostly submerged beneath Terra's Pacific Ocean. Some of its higher mountain ranges protrude above the surface of the ocean and form the island chains known as New Zealand and New Caledonia.
- Many people of this region live in shallow-water arcologies and undersea cities, most of whose commerce is devoted to aquaculture for export. Great undersea arcologies (some extending tall enough to pierce the ocean surface) are the home to billions of Terra's population. "LaGrange Starport" in Western Australia is a busy military starport that services a military reservation taking up much of the Australian desert. Imperial Navy and IISS headquarters are located at Alice Springs. While the port does see some civilian traffic bound for Asia and Oceania, the majority of port traffic is governmental and military. The Hivers have bought a several-hundred thousand hectare tract of land on the eastern coast of the Australia District and set up an enclave from which they sell their cutting-edge electronic devices.
Antarctica (Continent)[edit]
The warming climate has rendered significant parts of the Antarctic continent largely ice-free. It is surrounded on all sides by the Southern Ocean.
- The Shackleton Community in Antarctica is a site of increasing local emigration.
Satellite Data: "Luna"[edit]
Luna has a political status equivalent to one of Terra's continents.
Lunar Colony Locations[edit]
Luna has three major settlement regions, each of which includes domed and underground cities linked by monorails and gravitic highways: The Copernicus Settlement at Copernicus Crater in the low north equatorial latitudes, the Archimedes Settlement at Archimedes Crater in the northern Mare Ibrium basin, and the Plato Settlement at Plato Crater in the far North. Additional settlements and facilities include the Sinus Iridium Mining Station in the northwest extension of the Mare Ibrium basin known as the Sinus Iridium Plain, the Montes Apenninus Mining Station in the Montes Apenninus barrier mountains along the southeastern border of the Mare Ibrium basin, , the Theophilus Naval Base at Theophilus Crater in the low south equatorial latitudes, the Clavius Research Station at Clavius Crater in the Southern Highlands, and Farside Research Station on the tide-locked Lunar "Far Side" from Terra.

It is operated as a branch of the University of Luna, and its vast distributed arrays cover thousands of square kilometers on the lunar hemisphere facing away from Terra. Development and travel on the far side of Luna is restricted in order to avoid interfering with the institute's research programs.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Terra is filled with a vast variety of lifeforms, many of which were exported throughout Charted Space during the Rule of Man.
Native Sophont[edit]
The Solomani Hypothesis states that Humans evolved on Terra (Solomani Rim 1827) and were scattered to many different worlds by the Ancients for reasons currently unknown.
- The result is that many different, parallel human races exist, and coexist throughout Charted Space.
World Dossier[edit]
Terra is also known locally as Earth. It is the origin world of the genetic stock from which all races of Humaniti descended, the former capital of the Terran Confederation, the former capital of the Terran Mercantile Community (TMC), which later became the Old Earth Union, and former capital of the Solomani Autonomous Region. The word Terran (used in the past to refer to an inhabitant of this world or to a citizen of the Terran Confederation) is derived from the name of this world.
- Terra today is an important high-population garden world orbiting the star Sol in Sol Subsector of the Solomani Rim. The system is a member of the Imperium and contains both a Naval Base and a Way Station. Terra is currently under Imperial Military rule.
- » Terra is the source of the non-sapient animal species the Ancients uplifted into the Vargr.
- » Terra is the source of the non-sapient animal species the Solomani uplifted into the Dolphins, the Ursa, and the Uplifted Apes.
Imperial High & Landed Nobility[edit]
Terra (SR 1827), as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdoms of two members of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial knight, the Imperial representative to the world.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial count.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial minor duke.
- See: Nobles of Terra
- » As of 1105, Terra's Imperial Noble representation is primarily Ceremonial, pending the near-future transfer of Terran local government from Imperial military governorship back to home rule.
World Starport[edit]
Terra (SR 1827) has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The "AECO (Africa-Europe Cooperation Organization) Starport" lies on the shores of the flooded Chott Djerid, in what was once eastern Algeria.
- "Phoenix-Mesa Starport" (a.k.a. "Starport Paulo") is located in the southwestern region of the North American continent, just southwest of the city of Phoenix. Over two-thirds of Terra's merchant traffic passes through this one starport.
- "LaGrange Starport" in Western Australia is a busy military starport that services a military reservation taking up much of the Australian desert. Imperial Navy and IISS headquarters are located at Alice Springs. While the port does see some civilian traffic bound for Asia and Oceania, the majority of port traffic is governmental and military.

Politics & Government[edit]
World Government[edit]
Terra (SR 1827) has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
- Terra has been under Imperial Naval jurisdiction since the conclusion of the Solomani Rim War in 1002 though a return to self-governing home rule is pending and planned for roughly the year 1108.
- Terra's capital is the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the local Province of Brasilia in the northeastern region of the South American continent. The Imperial military governor's residence overlooks a lake high in the Andes mountain range along the South American continental western coast.
World Law[edit]
Terra has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
