In practice, this zone tends to be a few planets out from the main star of a system, in which the conditions for liquid water, temperate weather, and other necessary conditions for conventional life can arise.
- Too far out, and liquid water no longer exists, meaning that only cryomorphs, or extreme cold species can survive.
- Too far in, and only thermomorphs, or extreme heat-loving species can survive.
- And of course, there are hundreds of other factors also involved.
Orbital Location of the Habitable Zone
The location of the HZ within star system is dependent on the category and class of the Star or Stars within the System and the placement of those Stars relative to each other. e.g. Two class M category V stars 100AU apart will make no difference to the Habitable Zones of each other - A class M main-sequence star orbiting a class A main sequence star just outside the Class A's habitable zone may have a number of planets that have habitable temperatures for all or part of their orbits.
