One of the Domains of the Imperium.
- It was once referred to as the Domain of Diaspora.
- It is also part of the Archduchy of Sol.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Domain of Sol contains no major void regions, however most of Alpha Crucis Sector, and some of Solomani Rim Sector, belongs to the Solomani Confederation.
- A small part of Old Expanses Sector is also Solomani, and it also contains some non-Imperial territory. Overall the Domain is 70% Imperial.
- The Domain also administers a very small part of the Hinterworlds Sector (Trailing of Old Expanses) as well as the Imperial systems of Magyar Sector.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Prior to the reincorporation of the bulk of the Solomani Rim (the ancient "Rim Province") into the early and expansionist Third Imperium (and the reincorporation of the Solomani Rim Sector and Sol Subsector in particular), the Domain of Sol was known (both officially and unofficially) by several different names. During this time no Archduke presided over the region, and with the Archdukedom in a state of abeyance what governmental apparatus existed with respect to the Domain was handled as a Rim March extension of the Domain of Sylea. [1]
The eventual incorporation of Rim States such as the Easter Concord in 426 and the Vegan Polity led eventually to overtures with other Rim State polities in the region that resulted in the formal renaming of the Domain to the Domain of Sol in 583, shortly before the incorporation of the Dingir League in 586, and finally of the Old Earth Union (and of Terra in the Sol system itself) in 588.
- Until recently, the domain capital was on Exeter (Diaspora 2729), but between 1112 - 1114, Archduke Adair moved it to Muan Gwi, the Vegan homeworld, to be closer to the most serious problem area of his domain -- the Solomani-dominated worlds along the rimward border of the Imperium.
- When the domain was originally created in 76 [2], it was named the Domain of Diaspora.
- In 583 it was renamed the Domain of Sol by Jaqueline I.
- In 716 the Domain of Sol lapsed on the death of the Archduke without heirs.
- Second creation in 1003 under House Adair[4].
