Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Tyui people, known to Humans as the Vegans, were subjugated by the Vilani during the Consolidation Wars. With the collapse of the Ziru Sirka following the Terrans' Interstellar Wars, the Vegans achieved independence. Their self-governing region of space was referred to, simply, as the Vegan Polity; the specifics were left to the Vegans themselves, the victorious Terrans having too much on their plate to justify much in the way of interest.
The term "Vegan Polity" is also applied, retroactively, to the Vegans' pre-Vilani Conquest interstellar state.
A. Goals: 1116[edit]
The sophonts of this polity were driven by several motivations and goals:
- The Vegan Polity's primary goal was the preservation of the Vegans' right to govern their own affairs on their worlds under their traditional tuhuir system. By Human standards, the Vegans are an unambitious people, and the Polity had no aim to expand to additional worlds.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Vegans' first contact with Humans was with Geonee merchant-explorers; it was from them that they acquired the jump drive. Using it, they colonized a few dozen worlds and formed the first Vegan Polity in advance of contact with the Ziru Sirka.
The Vegan Polity was the last minor race the Vilani conquered in their expansion to rimward before the era of Vilani cultural stagnation began. The Vegans tenaciously resisted the Ziru Sirka, but the Vilani ground them down with their characteristic brutal efficiency. When only Muan Gwi and Muan Issler remained free, the Vilani subjected the latter to extensive nuclear bombardment, reducing its population from several billion to a few million, then broadcast recordings of the bombing to Muan Gwi. Muan Gwi then surrendered, and the Vegan worlds remained under Vilani subjection for many centuries. The Vilani believed the Vegan tuhuir were equivalent to their own caste system, and attempted to impose equivalent regulations on the Vegans, despite certain important differences between the two systems. The Vegans, however, effectively used passive resistance to encourage the Vilani to allow them to administer their own affairs on the level of individual planets.
When the Terrans won the Eighth Interstellar War, the Treaty of Ensulur granted independence to the Vegan Polity, which became an important ally of the Confederation. The Polity prospered during the Rule of Man and survived the Long Night largely intact by following an isolationist policy. It was later incorporated into the Third Imperium, which eliminated it as a unified state due to the Imperial policy of insisting on total control of interstellar affairs within its borders.
As part of the Solomani Sphere, the Vegan worlds suffered from prejudicial treatment from Solomani nationalists adhering to the Solomani Cause.
Imperial forces captured the Vegan worlds from the Solomani during the Solomani Rim War in 1001, giving the Imperium a secure base from which to destroy the Solomani fleet and capture Terra. The worlds of the former Polity were then organized into the semi-independent Vegan Autonomous District, linchpin of Imperial power on the rimward frontier with the Solomani.

Government Structure[edit]
In a matter of speaking, there has never been a central Vegan executive. Vegans rule through committee. However, while in most human cultures, a government of committees would be regarded as a joke, such governance works for Vegans since a tuhuir is far more aligned culturally and philosophically than the vast majority of Human political parties, movements, and the like.
