The Hinterworlds Sector is a section of largely balkanized space, a number of smaller world-states, sandwiched between larger powers, and often struggling to not be swallowed by larger fish.

Hinterworlds Sector was designed by Marc W. Miller and appears in Classic Traveller Atlas of the Imperium (GDW, 1984).
- In 1984, Atlas of the Imperium was published.

- In 1989, it was further refined by Rob Caswell and Karl Johnson and appeared in Challenge Magazine in issue #39.

The Hinterworlds are a crossroads sector, sort of a wild west of Non-Aligned World-states, unregulated trade, and, best of all, unregulated freedom!
- The K'kree have an unofficial presence in this sector and all omnivores and carnivores have made note of this. It is a big part of the interstellar politics of the area.
