• As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
• Its economy is rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to rapidly improve barring outside forces.
• This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the massive extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
• This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.
• This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
• It is a member of the Ral Ranta in the Cimeon Subsector of Hinterworlds Sector.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Berange has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. This atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds, which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Berange has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.

There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

Berange is governed by a Charismatic Oligarchy, like a charismatic dictatorship in that a larger group has asserted their right to rule. The group will likely have better rules of succession than a single dictator and may last longer, or may transition to a non-charismatic dictatorship.

• When in a Ral Ranta system, knowing what clan runs things is more important than what sort of government is running the system. Who you know grossly outweighs the apparent laws and government of the system.
• In almost any Ral Ranta system bribery is a way of life in dealing with the government.

World Law Level (L)

Berange has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked, and destinations must often be declared when traveling substantial distances across the world.

Whether as part of the official legal system or not, corporal punishment is pervasive throughout Ral Ranta society.

World Economy

Trade Data

Ral Rantan merchants are generally unscrupulous but will keep their word and any deal they make to the letter of the agreement -- this includes any verbal contract. They expect the other party to honor a deal the same way, on the threat of violence. It should be noted that Ral Rantans are often very adept at finding loopholes and exceptions to deals, agreements, and contracts, and may define the terms of one in unexpected ways.

World Culture

Dueling is a widely practiced means of settling disputes. An honorable death is a desirable outcome for a Ral Rantan. They are generally an aggressive, fearless people who say what they mean and mean what they say (though they are also notorious for withholding information in order to gain an advantage, and have no qualms about exploiting others). Demands, threats, and intimidation are an everyday part of life.

Most Ral Ranta have a deep reverence for their ancestors and practice some form of ancestor worship. Having ancestors that are great or notable warriors is considered a source of pride.
