Didinack is a non-agricultural and nonindustrial world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It has few prospects for economic development. Life here is drastically bleak.
- It is a member of the Anubian Trade Coalition in the Anubis Subsector of Hinterworlds Sector.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This system lies along the trade route known as the Alike Run. It is part of the Anubis Main.
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Didinack has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
This is a member world of the Anubian Trade Coalition, part of a string of highly-developed systems.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Didinack has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- All traffic to and from the surface is by small craft and boats operated by regulated and controlled ATC operators. This has resulted in the B-class rating of the high port being somewhat misleading in practice. This is a deliberate move to prevent smuggling, particularly human smuggling as workers frequently try to escape from ATC-dominated worlds.
World Population (P)[edit]
Didinack has a population of 3,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
World Government (G)[edit]
Didinack is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
World Law (L)[edit]
Didinack has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
- There are two court systems in use.
- The first is for business owners, free persons, and the rich and powerful. This system operates as a deliberative body and assesses penalties, mostly in the form of economic redress.
- The second is for the working class. This system is abrupt, arbitrary, and usually issues corporal or capital punishment as sentences. It was adopted in part from Ral Ranta justice systems.
- An alternative dispute settlement system for business owners and the rich exists in the practice of duelling adopted from the Ral Ranta. This is a legal option for persons in the upper classes of society. The working class cannot use it.
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Didinack possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
Economy[edit]
The internal currency of the Anubian Trade Coalition is the Florin. It trades at about 5 to 1 with the Imperial credit.
Anubians and the ATC view corporations poorly. Their belief is that one takes a direct part in ownership of a company either as a proprietor or as a partner.
World Culture[edit]
Anubian society is heavily stratified and class oriented. Social mobility is limited. Most aspects of life in the Coalition are either an experience of privilege for the top classes of society, or heavy-handed repression and toil for the lower working classes.
