Diaspora style="width: 250px; height: 350px; border: solid 1px black; float: right; clear: left" | |||||||||||||||||
Diaspora Sector was only sparsely settled by the First Imperium Vilani, who called it Nakulakak.
Description[edit]
Diaspora has a very important strategic location, being the central crossroads of many trade mains, and it is very diverse in intelligent life. The area is still developing economically despite the considerable trade that passes through. It has suffered through and survived several violent conflicts between the peoples of Vland and Terra. It is clear that with its closer proximity to Terra, the Terrans won the cultural conflict; the area has very little Vilani character and the overwhelming stamp of Terran civilization.
For the most part, even the least capable jump ships have an easy time navigating this well-populated and developed region.
Physcial Astrography[edit]
The following astrographic data regarding the sector has been determined:
- It is an average density region.
- The sector has two relatively minor rift density regions.
- The brightest star in the sector is the red giant primary of the Chimborazo system.
Stellar Distribution[edit]
A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Diaspora Sector, right:
- The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
- The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.
Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.
- Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
- Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the sector and far beyond.
Rift Regions[edit]
Diaspora Sector has two relatively small rift regions and also contains a number of minor voids that are too small to qualify as a true rift. These various areas of lower stellar density serve to hamper travel and restrict commerce within its boundaries.
- Jump-2 and Jump-3 corridors of stars, the arteries of interstellar trade connecting the various clusters, snake between them.
Named rift regions include:
Nature of Rifts[edit]
Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic concept based purely on Jump Drive performance.
Rift regions generally relate to regular commercial traffic and the way it travels between destinations. Merchant vessels with jump-4 drives or better are fairly rare because of the higher costs involved in operating the vessel, the lower revenue generated by the reduced cargo space due to the need for large fuel tanks, and the relative paucity of technologically advanced maintenance facilities within the region. As a result, the vast majority of merchant vessels are capable of jump-3 or less.
- Large areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.
- The nature and borders of a rift may be determined by other criteria in different regions.
In order to qualify as a rift, the region must have ten or more contiguous hexes. Many areas have minor void regions that are too small to qualify as a true rift, but are still significant enough to seriously hamper and channel interstellar travel.
Military vessels and specialist ships such as couriers are often only marginally affected by the presence of smaller rifts. Larger rift regions have a greater significance, requiring lengthy detours or complex refueling operations or creating bottlenecks that even the longest range vessels are forced to travel through.
World Listing[edit]
Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds lying within Diaspora Sector is available.
- The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
- Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
- Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
- Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.
AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:
Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, may already be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
Economic Astrography[edit]
The following commercial and economic data regarding the sector is available:
Importance[edit]
A chart is provided showing importance as green circles centered on a world, with larger circles indicating greater importance and overlapping circles giving an overview of a region's economic significance. While importance is largely a measure of raw economic power, other influencing factors include starport quality, political significance, a high planetary habitability rating, or even the local culture.
Importance also gives a good indication of the sphere of influence that individual worlds exert.
Corporations[edit]
Corporations and organizations active within the sector include:
- General Products, an Imperial megacorporation involved in heavy industry and manufacturing.
- GSbAG, an Imperial megacorporation involved in ship construction.
- Hortalez et Cie, an Imperial megacorporation specializing in banking and finance.
- Ling Standard Products, an Imperial megacorporation engaged in widescale resource extraction and processing.

- Naasirka, an Imperial megacorporation with long historical ties to the region and specializing in electronics and robotics.
- Sharurshid, an Imperial megacorporation specializing in finance and commerce.
- Star Patterns Trading, a Hiver corporation involved in transport and logistics. It maintains good relations with both the Solomani Confederation and the Imperium.
- SuSAG, an Imperial megacorporation specializing in commercial chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and genetic engineering.
- Transstar, a Solomani megacorporation specializing in transport and logistics. It operates across 13 sectors, represented by the 13 stars in its logo.
- Tukera Lines, an Imperial megacorporation specializing in transport and logistics.
Trade Routes[edit]
High cargo capacity, low jump rating vessels move along the clusters and traces of the sector, carrying vast amounts of goods and commodities between their member worlds. Jump-2 and Jump-3 feeder routes work their ways around the rifts and voids that dot the region, linking the various clusters and traces. Some of the more important of these include:
- Imperial Road (major trade route)
Mains[edit]
Main is an astrographic term for groups of 50 or more systems that are accessible by jump-1-capable starships.
Mains are highlighted in green: one main lies within the sector.
Clusters[edit]
Cluster is a broad astrographic term for groups of between 10 and 50 systems that are accessible by jump-1-capable starships.
Clusters are highlighted in tan: eleven clusters lie wholly or partially within the sector. The Rimward Link, an important regional hub, lies along the spinward-coreward edge of the sector.

- Libert Main
- Madoc Main [1]
- Oreo Cluster
- Shadigi Cluster
- Shimmer Cluster
- Wulfe Pack

- Pasdaruu Cluster
- Promise Cluster
- Saagii Main
- Sufren Cluster
- Thicket Run
- Yovanne Cluster
Jump Bridges[edit]
Jump Bridges are locations within empty hexes that contain caches of fuel and supplies. They allow lower jump rating vessels to bridge gaps between distant worlds by providing a halfway point. The hexes they lie within are vast, and without exact coordinates to jump to within it a vessel could end up with empty tanks in empty wilderness, perhaps as much as a light-year away from any hope of rescue. Where they do exist, Jump Bridges are heavily guarded and access is not generally granted to those without the correct credentials.
- No commercial jump bridges are known to currently exist within the sector.
- It has long been rumored that the Imperium, Imperial megacorporations, or other interests may maintain covert jump bridge facilities at strategically important points, but no reliable proof of this has ever been provided.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Diaspora was only sparsely settled by the First Imperium Vilani. It is an astrographic region rich in indigenous life. Many scientists and historians have speculated that such a richness of lifeforms cannot have occurred by chance, and the number of NILs has been the subject of several books. Current sophontic theory holds that there should only be three sophont species per sector-sized area of galactic space. Clearly, Diaspora is one of the many refutations of this theory to be found within Charted Space.

History-Era: Milieu 1100[edit]
When the expanding Terran Confederation exploded into space, Vilani efforts to develop the area were described by one Terran general as "Too little, too late, too slow: too bad." Attempts to use it as a buffer zone only made it easier for the Terrans to conquer portions of it, and ultimately the Vilani began trading bits of it away in attempts to appease the voracious invaders.
As the Terrans grabbed subsector after subsector in their coreward drive, they realized that they had to dominate the region culturally as well as militarily if they were to establish true, lasting control. The Terran Confederation initiated a gargantuan resettlement campaign to achieve this goal. This campaign, which involved the transplanting of some 10 million willing and unwilling persons in the first eight years, was known as the "Diaspora" and gave the name to the Sector.
During the Long Night, only the Union of Sufren was able to maintain a shaky hold on interstellar culture, and its perseverance was rewarded when it was finally contacted by traders of Cleon Zhunatsu's Third Imperium. During this period, many in the Imperial core knew Diaspora as the "Enigma Sector".
By 330, the sector was incorporated into the Third Imperium, and this ushered in a new age of unrivaled prosperity for Diaspora, as it sat astride the "Imperial Road" that linked Capital to humaniti's birthplace.
- -1744: Union of Sufren established.
- 330: Sector incorporated into the Third Imperium.
- 332: Imperial Road reconnected to Imperial Core.

Mopping-up operations in The Blight and Alurza subsectors continue over the next year. Both Imperial and Confederation resources from the Daibei Sector are diverted into Diaspora. Fighting over the next two years sees steady Confederation advances with the complete capture of the Promise Subsector and Iusea Subsector, the majority of the Ebasha Subsector, and parts of the Shadigi Subsector, Kushga Subsector and Pasdaruu Subsector.
- 996: The Imperium begins to conduct offensive operations in the Alurza Subsector and Kushga Subsector. The Solomani High Command is under orders to fully defend every border world, preventing Wolfe from concentrating the smaller Confederation Navy against either of the two offensives.
- 998: The Imperium has recaptured the entirety of the Kushga, Alurza and Pasdaruu subsectors.
- (1002): The war ends after the Imperial capture of Terra and the destruction of the Solomani Grand Fleet.
- 995-1065: The Imperial Second Survey charts the sector.
- 1065: The Second Survey is published. Information about the sector becomes widely available.
Politics & Diplomacy (Interstellar Relations)[edit]
Diaspora Sector has been fought over by the powers that be for centuries. At one time, it was a vibrant frontier for both peoples escaping the Vilani and Terrans seeking new frontiers. That was long ago.
