Sophontology
Sophontology is the study of sophonts or intelligent lifeforms.
Etymology[edit]
Derived from the Terran Greek word 'Sophia' meaning wisdom.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Subsidiary branches of this science include cultural sophontology, the comparative study of sophont societies; physical sophontology, the study of the genetic and physiological makeup of intelligent life; and developmental sophontology, the study of the various means by which life forms evolve intelligence.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Most advanced societies develop a system of sophontology after first contact. Many of these spacefaring societies first encounter signs of less advanced life first, organic elements embedded within meteorites, simple monocellular life, perhaps viruses. After all, simple life is fairly common amongst the stars. But, intelligent life, sophonts, are considerably more rare.
