Human Chimera
Human Chimera are Chimeras using Humaniti as the (or one of the) base species while engineering the new species.
- Some Variant Human Races qualify as Chimeras.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Most scientists use one or the other of the terms Human Chimera or Variant Human Race to indicate these genetically engineered populations. In general, the term Chimera has a higher standard-defining threshold (and is thus narrower in scope) in that the term specifically refers to a creature or species that was geneered from 2 or more distinct species, or that a single species was used as a base to which were added significant genetic modification sequences from one or more additional species. Simple engineered genetic modification of aspects of existing species does not generally qualify a creature or species as a Chimera -- it must be a hybrid or fusion of two or more distinct, independently viable species in some way. Thus the term Variant Human Race is broader in scope.
- These species may or may not rate their own taxonomic name.
- This often depends on political considerations, although sometimes there are sound practical reasons for an omission.
Known Variant Human Races: 1105[edit]
The following known Variant Human Races exist within Charted Space, some of which may qualify as Chimerae:
- Acheron
- Aquan
- Bo'daan
- Fervoriani
- Ginsharian
- Iziri
- Jonkeereen
- Lamura Teg
- Mermani
- Morlock
- Neiikhi
- Nexxies
- Otrai
- Scania
- Selenite
- Urpayan
- Wuans
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Major Race/Minor Race scheme has its exceptions and special cases.
- Many of these involve new species of Humaniti created by genetic engineering during historical times.
- Many laymen consider such species to be Minor Races, but since they have had no chance to invent jump drive on their own, but may be descended from races that did, they don't fit the usual definition of either.
