Dema is a nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Pasdaruu Subsector of Diaspora Sector in the Domain of Sol.

History-Era: Rebellion[edit]

By 1129 Dema was a sad example of planetary regression and considered part of the Wilds. Its environmental systems all but gone, it survived by contracting Samaran merchants to provide low-level maintenance in exchange for free cargoes of ore. However, as hardship increased, so did anarchy. Before long, pirates started patronizing the system.

  • Now a thriving corsair haven, Dema's entire economy revolves around its dangerous clientèle. "Marriages" between corsairs and locals are frequent, which bodes well for the continued maintenance of the planet's environmental systems. This intermarriage, frequently involuntary, is a source of sadness for the inhabitants, though they hide their sorrow behind eager, ingratiating smiles when the next ship load of raiders comes to call.
