Chinese (or Guanhua) is a family of language-dialects from the Sinitic Family of Languages of old Terra's eastern Eurasian continent that the early Terrans and later Solomani spread to the stars both during the Rule of Man and also later among their Confederation Colonies.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Chinese is actually a family of language-dialects from one of the most populated and culturally significant regions of early starflight Terra. The principal dialect Guanhua that gave rise to the most "common" form of Chinese is known variously as Mandarin, Hanyu, or Putonghua. Other less prevalent dialects, such as Cantonese (or Gwongdungwa), have survived as well.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

During the Terran Confederation era, Guanhua spawned distinctive dialects under both the Hanyu and Putonghua names, respectively, in the places where they were spread, and several dialects descended in various places from languages originally called Mandarin where Guanhua was significantly merged with other Terran "Western" languages such as Old Anglic or the Iberian languages.

The Gwongdungwa language has spread to some worlds as well under various daughter dialects known by various names, and those which became significantly fused with other "foreign" Terran tongues have in some cases preserved some version of the name "Cantonese" in the name of their language.
