History and Background[edit]

Tokitre is one of the most loyal Imperial Client States in existence, and is quite pleased to act as host to a permanent Naval group -- as certain treaty stipulations require. The world is an unofficial capital for Imperial organizations -- governmental, corporate, and otherwise -- expanding across the Lesser Rift. The local culture is rather conflicted in regard to their powerful Vargr neighbors: sometimes detesting them, sometimes imitating them. Despite this conflict, they are very quick to defend their sovereignty and security from Vargr interests, both official and criminal. The Old Europe flavor of the system marks it as extremely unique in a sector dominated by Bwap, Vargr, East Indian, and Arabic cultures.

There is a major Imperial naval base on Tokitre; because of treaty stipulations, the local naval garrison is still at full strength. Several local naval instillations are scattered across the system, watching over the Oort cloud, the two asteroid belts, and the four gas giants. Two monstrous orbital defence/naval bases (and numerous smaller defense platforms) are in orbit over Tokitre itself.

This relationship dates back many centuries. The two closely-aligned systems of Tokitre and Outpost considered creating an interstellar state in the 20s, but pirate-diplomats from Ikon made clear that any such decision would be viewed as hostile and provoke a violent response. The young Third Imperium, learning of these two major systems and their hatred for the Ikonaz, sent out diplomatic feelers to their governments in the 80s, during the Antares Pacification Campaign.

By 117, the Imperial-Ethou War ended, with the current Ikonaz government, the Steel Bond of Ethou, transferring to the Third Imperium all Ovaghoun Vargr territory in Antares and Lishun sectors. Tokitre and several worlds close to the Ikonaz border became Imperial Client States.

As the epicenter of Imperial power and wealth on the Vargr side of the Lesser Rift, Tokitre is host to a wide range of businesses, main offices, research and educational centers, and diplomatic networks. A vast number of large Imperial organizations keep their "final frontier" office on this world. Local Imperial traders jokingly call Tokitre "The Last Homely Home" before entering the howling chaos that is the Vargr Extents.

World Starport[edit]

Tokitre has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Government[edit]

While most of the nations of the mainworld have no ties with the Imperium, the four dominant nations -- and the two independent polities elsewhere in the Tokitre system -- all have client relationships with it. A major proxy war (the Sathin Conflict, 987-992) broke an alliance of pro-Julian nations, forcing them to break ties with the Protectorate to regain their independence. As of 993, the Protectorate had failed to re-establish any public presence in-system.

The Tokitre Diplomatic Council on distant Capital is composed of ambassadors from all six Imperial client nations. A Senior Ambassador is chosen every two years from among them, to be the 'Face of Tokitre' before the Emperor. The Senior Ambassador can do little on his own authority; the Council must ratify any major decision he makes.
