Niketan has both an unbreathable thin atmosphere and a lack of surface water making habitation by sophonts difficult. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. The governance of this world is from Irash (Empty Quarter 2036). It is a member of Third Imperium in the Udusis Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Domain of Antares. Niketan, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world.

History and Background

Wealthy East Indian and American Indian families share power and wealth on this world: two East Indian families own the shipbuilding business.

Niketan was a part of the now-defunct Yashodhan Democracy.

The political leadership of Yashodhan found Imperial diplomats overbearing, arrogant, and threatening. Thus, they chose to remain independent and created the interstellar Yashodhani Democracy in 63, compromising Yashodhan and the then-uninhabited worlds of Niketan and Selka.

Niketan in time was claimed by the Imperium, though Yashodhan remains independent.
