Ikkimam has both an unbreathably thin atmosphere and a lack of surface water making habitation by sophonts difficult. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Gimushi Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Domain of Antares. Ikkimam, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world.

History and Background[edit]
About -4500 Imperial, during the First Imperium, something really bad happened in Ikkimam system. Several Imperial scout expeditions have been sent to the system to determine the cause: the leading explanation is that a gas giant exploded. (But First Imperium records disagree, with no gas giants noted by the careful Vilani surveyors.) While the Imperial Scouts have been withdrawn to support the war effort hundreds of parsecs rimward, privately- and planetary-government funded investigations continue.
So far no less than six colonies have tried to make a go of Ikkimam and not one has succeeded.
- While the atmosphere is too thin to breath it should be fine for growing crops, yet the crops mostly seem to fail.
- There are no minerals of appreciable value on the planet but it is a large planet with decent gravity and plenty of space.
- This was the line used by Lady Yolande Lans Crussk when she began to set up the latest colonial attempt on Ikkimam.
- She set up a first rate downport and offered people high incentives to come and settle the planet.
- However, the crops haven’t grown well and the colony is slowly starving.
- Crussk herself died in 899 but the 8 million colonists are still trying to keep the colony going.
Imperial High (Landed) Nobility[edit]
Ikkimam, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Nobility overseeing the world.
World Starport[edit]
Ikkimam has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
