Lazisar is a desert world with a thin atmosphere. The system has a population over one billion. This world is designated an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Gimushi Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Domain of Antares. Lazisar, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and the fiefdom of a count. Both are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. This world has a nearby Naval Base, capable of handling warships.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Lazisar is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Lazisar has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Lazisar has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

History and Background[edit]

Lazisar is a respected and powerful system within the Empty Quarter, due to her combination of a high population, good technology, stable government, decent starports, and the best Imperial Navy base in the sector.

Hebrin (Empty Quarter 1930) introduced Islam to Lazisar in -1257. Lazisari modifications to Islamic doctrine -- which eventually were codified to the Kikhushegi religion -- led to a sublight jihad, an expensive and inconclusive war that ended after four centuries.

During a series of intra-Noble hostilities in the pre-Civil War era, the Lazisari positioned themselves as 'neutral Imperial patriots'. While they were unable to have the sector capital transferred to their system (and their Duke become Sector Duke), they did win other benefits, including more Imperial military spending on their world (as a side-effect, partially displacing the Arab Muslims that traditionally dominated the local Imperial military).

The Imperial Depot of Lazisar was downgraded to a large naval base in 741 Imperial.

World Population (P)[edit]

Lazisar has a population of 5,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).

Demographics[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

The massive orbiting city of Solariopolis is in orbit over Lazisar. It is the most heavily defended point in the Empty Quarter, and is also home to the Imperial Naval Base and the largest Imperial Navy yards in the sector. Large areas of the civilian side of the space station are lawless, with bandits armed with low-tech weapons.

Solariopolis was founded over Lazisar as an Imperial Depot in 238 Imperial. The planetary economy and population boomed during the False Dawn (200-300 Imperial).

Solariopolis is more cosmopolitan than Lazisar itself; around 30% of the civilians are foreign to the Empty Quarter (mainly from Ley and Antares), and the largest community within the Quarter of Core Sector origin is found here, with influence far outweighing their numbers. Roughly 15% of the population are non-Human -- the majority of these Bwap, who live in humid warrens, exiting by subway to interact with the Human population.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Lazisar possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Lazisar is governed by a Charismatic Oligarchy, like a charismatic dictatorship in that a larger group has asserted their right to rule. The group will likely have better rules of succession than a single dictator and may last longer, or may transition to a non-charismatic dictatorship.

  • The Lazisari World Directorate was founded in -792 Imperial. The Lazisar System Directorate, its subsequent incarnation, maintains a paternal interest in the life of every citizen, and the impersonal bureaucracy labors to fit every individual within a prescribed social role and chosen, authorized lifepath. The Lazisari population -- composed in the main of native Human ethnic groups, derived from ancient Vilani settlers -- is comfortable with this level of social control.

World Law (L)[edit]

Lazisar has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked. There is no legal concept of privacy (save for those who can claim necessity for official government business). The police are free to inspect anyone and anything at any time.

World Culture[edit]

Kikhushegi is the indigenous religion of Lazisar, founded in -1173, and dominant on Lazisar since -804. Derived from Islam, the strong influence of Vilani tradition and philosophy on Kikhushegi leads many Muslims to treat it as heretical. However, the vigorous support of the Kikhushegi religion by both the people and the government of Lazisar has entrenched it as the leading Human religion in Gimushi Subsector, and quite influential through much of the Imperial Empty Quarter.

World Timeline[edit]

  • -1257: Islam is introduced to Lazisar by Hebrin (Empty Quarter 1930).
  • -1173: The Kikhushegi sect arises on Lazisar.
  • -804: The four dominant governments on Lazisar all declare Kikhushegi the state religion.
  • -800: The tenets of Kikhushegi are radioed to Hebrin.
  • -792: The Lazisar World Directorate is created.
  • -779: The tenets of Kikhushegi are received by Hebrin; Jihad is declared against Lazisar.
  • -372: The jihad between Hebrin and Lazisar ends; both gain jump drive technology from Bwap delegations, in return for permitting Bwap resettlement on their worlds.
  • c. -200: The Lazisar System Directorate (as the former World Directorate is now called) works to increase their economic and technological strength, seeking higher tech levels.
