A Fusion Plant (or "F-Plant") is a facility where power is generated using a nuclear fusion process.

  • At higher technology levels, fusion power plants become much smaller (e.g. the "Power Plant" or "P-Plant" used in most starship engineering compartments) and eventually portable. The "Fusion+" power plant (or "F+ module") is one such development in portability.

Description[edit]

Standard Fusion Plants reduce the reactor pressures and energies at lower tech levels through utilization of the proton-proton reaction, while at higher technology levels the CNO reaction chain provides more power, but requires a higher confinement temperature.

History[edit]

At lower technology levels the power levels available are limited by the confinement chamber and electromagnetic field forces, which as the technology advances are able to increase the power output for a certain volume, and reduce the minimum size of the reaction confinement chamber. Fusion processes that have been used historically throughout Charted Space at one time or another by various cultures include:

Thermonuclear & Inertial Confinement Fusion[edit]

Gravitic & Damper-mediated Compression Reactions[edit]

Fusion-Plus Technologies[edit]
