Khollok has the population located in one or more dwarf planets or planetesimals in a co-orbital position, an asteroid belt. The system supports a population of fewer than 10,000 sophonts. The governance of this world is from Nisaga (Empty Quarter 3116). It is a member of Julian Protectorate in the Nisaga Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Hegemony of Lorean. 50% of the world's population is the Major Race Vargr.

  • This system was once known as Redring.

System Data[edit]

The Redring system is unusual in that it a large asteroid belt, but no gas giants or other bodies of significant mass in the system; although no evidence has been found to support the hypothesis, current beliefs in the absence of any other "workable" theory are that the belt are the result of the destruction of planetary bodies during the Ancient's Final War.

The belt has three distinct bands; the outer band is composed of iron-nickel bodies. The inner band of the belt in the system is referred to as "the icebelt"; there is an unusually high percentage of icy bodies in the belt. These icy bodies represent the only source of fuel in the system. Between the two is a mixture that give the distinct red color that provided the early name to the system.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

Redring takes its name from the high level of iron in the many iron-bearing bodies in the belt - much of the iron is stored in oxides that have the characteristic reddish color, giving the belt a distinct red tint when seen from a distance.

World Starport[edit]

Khollok has a frontier quality starport.

World Technology Level[edit]

Khollok possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government[edit]

Khollok is a Captive Government or Colony.

  • It is a government by a leadership answerable to an outside group, a colony or conquered area.
  • The typical power source of this government is an Vassal State.
  • The typical power structure of this government is a Federation .
  • The classification as "Potentially Hazardous" (equivalent to the Imperial TAS classification of "Amber Zone") is due to the possible existence of dangerous Ancient artifacts, and to the generally unfriendly attitudes of the inhabitants of the system.

World Demographics[edit]

The entire population of the system is a ragtag group of belters, most of whom have outstanding warrants in other Protectorate states, or in the Imperium. Their government is a "community meeting" whose primary purpose is to settle disputes over claims within the belt. The meeting also decides who will represent the belt to nearby systems for the purpose of selling what little material of value they can find.

Historical Data[edit]

The current forty thousand belters of Khollok are not the original inhabitants of this belt. The original colony formed during the late Ramshackle Empire died off over a thousand years ago. In 810, the world of Nisaga (Empty Quarter 3116) re-established a colony in the Khollok belt, so that mined materials could be transported back to Nisaga aboard Jump-3 ore carrier vessels developed on the TL-12 world of Khuvoeru (Empty Quarter 3212). While the current colony has recovered many of the facilities left behind by the original settlers, belters still occasionally recover a previously undiscovered facility on isolated planetoids. These sites often provoke the interest of archeologists interested in First and Second Imperial history.
