Riiakea is a rich and agricultural production world with a shirt-sleeve atmosphere and a balance of available surface water. The system supports a population in the millions of sophonts, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Julian Protectorate in the Nisaga Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Hegemony of Lorean.

History and Background[edit]

Before the Era of Horror, Riiakea was the heart of the Gangas interstellar government, and one of the major centers of resistance to Hegemonic rule. While the Lorean Hegemony was able to defeat the world's military defenses, the population was prepared, and retreated to extensive underground networks. To destroy these networks, the Hegemonio set off the Exotorik megavolcano; the planetary plant cover was also burnt off.

After the Horror was over, the Hegemony spent great sums to rebuild the biosphere. The world is a neighbor of Star's End Sector and -- instead of the Arzula -- Vilani Hegemonio from Star's End took charge of the rebirth of the world. Even though the lifeforms now more closely resemble that of an idealized Vland than the original fauna and flora, the world is again breathing and alive. The Vilani that now inhabit the world are culturally distinct from the Arzula and Damlaerite cultures that shape most of Hegemonio life: less fun-loving than the Damlaerites, less cold and cruel than the Arzula, and more stability and consensus-oriented than either. Moreover, the Vilani inhabitants do not subscribe to the Unified Cultus of the Deified Man, instead retaining their Vilani ritual traditions.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Riiakea has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Riiakea has a population of 1,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Timeline[edit]

These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this world and the surrounding region:

  • 814: The Third Imperium and the Arzula authorities forge a trading agreement, leading to the creation of the Deep Space Stations of the Saeghvung-Turley-Exile Run, crossing the Lesser Rift in Empty Quarter Sector.
  • 822-835: Much of Arzul Sector is conquered by the Arzula.
    • 835-860s: The Blighted War drains the Arzula's nascent Hegemony as it tries to conquer five subsectors.
  • 864: The modern Hegemony of Lorean is founded, starting out as a 'trade and aid' group of interstellar traders centred on a cluster of high-population systems dominating Mycocona Subsector.
    • The great success of this trade coalition leads to a sharp rise of economic and then military power.
  • 869-870: The repressive methods of the Hegemony, and the refusal of local resistance to buckle, leads to the Era of Horror in parts of coreward Empty Quarter Sector, as the Hegemony responds with undue cruelty against its enemies.
    • Riiakea is brutally conquered.
  • 872: The worlds of Kotsfa Subsector secede from the Hegemony, defying efforts to stop them.
    • Further disintegration is only prevented with the suicide of the Hegemon and radical economic reforms introduced by his successor.
    • In the aftermath of the conflicts, Vilani Hegemonio take charge of rebuilding Riiakea and its biosphere.
  • 933-936: The defection of the Damlaer Union from the Julian Protectorate to the Hegemony leads to the Lorean Strikes. Failed military action leads to a major political crisis within the Protectorate.
  • 940: As part of this political upheaval, the government of the Ikonaz Sphere collapses, replaced by the Rukadukaz Republic.
  • 942: The Protectorate and the Hegemony formally sign the Treaty of Var-Inaka (restricting naval basing) and the Julian Concord, incorporating the Hegemony into the Julian Protectorate.
