Akiar is a water world with a breathable, habitable atmosphere. The population is in the hundreds of thousands of sophonts, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. Government control of this world is by an external military force. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Gimushi Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Domain of Antares. Akiar, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and a baronet. Both are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. This world contains a Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel.

Astrography and Planetology[edit]

This world is part of the Sashar-Pamushgar Cluster.

Akiar has two stars in the star system.

History and Background[edit]

Akiar is a poor, Indian-dominated world which underwent some political troubles in the late 10th century Imperial. This system was ruled directly by Imperial Viceroy Madhavan Babbar since the extinction of the ancient Solomani ruling house in 978. Various families attempted to persuade Dethwabtakebwebwakawa -- Baron of Wesaswek, Duke of Lentuli and Sector Duke of the Empty Quarter -- to nominate their relatives to the empty planetary throne; none succeeded.

Abadani beliefs shaped several local political philosophies, and were even the basis of a brief planetary government (925-955), despite the opposition of the local Barony. Abadani remains influential in many cities and rural regions of the planet. There has also been a slight rise in technological ability, and implicitly wealth as well. Rich in food, minerals and an excellent tourist trade, one could be forgiven for thinking that Akiar couldn't possibly have any problems. Unfortunately it does. Just about every native belongs to either the Ullini faction or the Davirno faction. These are the two political parties and hated rivals. So evenly are the people divided that neither can gain a long lasting political edge over the other. Under threat of being Amber Zoned several times, Akiar rarely bothers off-worlders but there have been a few instances. Aside from this trouble though, Akiar, with almost all of its facilities existing underwater in the deep oceans, is a fascinating place to stay.

Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]

Akiar, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the estate of a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversees affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

» For a long time there was no established noble attached to the system -- a military Imperial Viceroy acted as the system administrator and world leader. The major factions were threatening, circa 990, to divide into sub-factions. There was much strife attached to local religious (Hindu) and territorial controversies. The Imperial Diplomatic Corps worked to resolve the multitude of issues and tangled conflicts. The title of Baron of Akiar had no claimant, as the local ruling house went extinct in 978.
» Sir Aeksarrgh was appointed the knighthood for this world.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Akiar has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
