Odzsouu is a water world with 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Julian Protectorate in the Tsahrroek Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Rukadukaz Republic. 10% of the world's population is the Major Race Vargr. 40% of the world's population is the Minor Race Bwap.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Odzsouu is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Odzsouu has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Odzsouu has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Odzsouu Behemoths, the largest native residents of the world, swim in the vast oceans without fear, as many of the local religions attach varying degrees of significance to these "dwellers of the deep." Occasionally, Behemoth hunters perform criminal acts of hunting and slaughtering the beasts, as their rarity and religious significance has attracted undue attention to their flesh in certain black markets of the culinary underworld.

History and Background[edit]

The water world of Odzsouu is home to a number of contra-grav supported cities and arcologies. While a sizable minority dwells in orbital facilities far above the planet's surface, many of the locals prefer to dwell closer to the water. The sea-going Behemoths are protected by local religious edicts and planetary law, but their flesh is quite valuable in certain markets.

The assassination of Archduke Gvueneghz in the Odzsouu system on 49-979 Imperial, by charisma-chasing Vargr pirates, sharply increased the possibility of war between the Third Imperium and the Julian Protectorate, but quick action by the Star Legion and the heartfelt apologies of the Regent of the Protectorate -- offered in person at Antares -- allowed relations to normalize quickly.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Odzsouu has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Odzsouu has a population of 400,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Timeline[edit]

Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within include the following:

  • -1711: Near the end of the Vargr Pillaging, the proto-Ovaghoun conquer the world of Ikon.
    • Over time, the local Vilani culturally overrun their Vargr overlords, reshaping the Ovaghoun Vargr into a distinct, almost hybridised culture.
  • -55: The Mmoannikh Accords between representatives of Logaksu Vargr and Ovaghoun Vargr societies ends a series of conflicts between the two cultures.
    • The Accords are rejected by the central Ikonaz government, leading to a shattering of the unity of the Ovaghoun.
  • 175-191: The Julian War, which sees numerous attacks on Ikon, all of which fail in breaking the homeworld of the Ovaghoun.
  • Circa 723: The Association of Good Wolves, the current government of Ikon, encourages the emigration of the working (i.e. Irilitok Vargr) classes to other, nearby worlds -- going so far as to subsidise 70% of the cost involved.
  • Circa 937-940: The Fellowship of Nobles, the current Ikonaz government, collapses.
  • 942: The Julian Protectorate and the Hegemony of Lorean formally sign the Treaty of Var-Inaka (restricting naval basing) and the Julian Concord, incorporating the Hegemony into the Protectorate.
    • The Rukadukaz insist upon a 'buffer zone' of neutral systems between their territory and the Loreans.
  • 979: The assassination of Archduke Gvueneghz in the Odzsouu system by Vargr pirates causes a brief but significant crisis in Imperial-Protectorate relations.
