Dark Nebula style="width: 250px; height: 350px; border: solid 1px black; float: right; clear: left" | |||||||||||||||||
Dark Nebula Sector is the location of the Aslan home world, which lies at the very edge of Aslan space, rather than in the middle of a sphere of influence as is more common with other starfaring major races.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Aslan Hierate controls over 230 worlds, while the Solomani Confederation controls over 100. A larger buffer zone of independent worlds is located in the coreward-centre region of the sector. The independent planets are highly diverse, politically, linguistically, and otherwise. The sector contains two small multi-world federations, the Union of Harmony and the Gerontocracy of Ormine.
The Aslan consider Dark Nebula -- or I'aheako as they call it -- part of their Tyeao Eakh (Ancestral Worlds) region. As noted, their homeworld is here on the current trailing edge of their territory. (The Vilani spread mostly in one direction because of the limitations of jump-1 drive, but for most others, the stars were more evenly spread.) Most agree that this is because Aslan developed jump drive relatively late, and found that humans had already claimed most of the worlds to coreward and trailing of Kusyu.
- It is noteworthy that in order to expand in the direction left open to them, Aslan had to develop jump-2 almost immediately after inventing jump drive. Many small clusters of Aslan worlds would be isolated with only jump-1 drive available.

Linguistic Topography: 1105[edit]
In the politically neutral or backwater areas of Dark Nebula, nearly every individual world has a local language spoken nowhere else and some of those worlds have multiple such languages.
Some of the common languages found across the region are as follows:
- Languages of Humaniti:
- Rim Anglic: One of the principal dialects of one of the two official languages of the Third Imperium and an official language of the Solomani Confederation.
- » Various secondary languages of Terran origin can be heard on Solomani worlds.
- Languages of Major non-Human Races:
- Trokh: The common language of Aslan who conform to the modern monoculture established after the Aslan Cultural Purge.
- » Aslanic: A patois of the Aslan's dominant language of Trokh, utilising Trokh grammar and morphology but with phonology more suited to Human vocalisation. Commonly used by Human societies that have long had contact and exchange with Aslan, noticeably those aided and uplifted by Aslan during the Long Night.
- Oynprith: The ritualistic, ceremonial language of Droyne communities throughout Charted Space.
- Languages of Minor non-Human Races:
- Thirmone: The ponderous, dominant language of the Ormine; as such, the primary language in the Gerontocracy of Ormine, their interstellar nation.

Hyades Cluster[edit]
The Hyades is the nearest open cluster to Terra, lying around 47 parsecs from Sol and just across the rim trailing corner of the Dark Nebula Sector, at the borders of Magyar Sector and Canopus Sector: it is located within the spinward-coreward quadrant of Canopus Sector, to rimtrailing, close to the border with Magyar Sector. It consists of a roughly spherical group of hundreds of stars sharing the same age, place of origin, chemical characteristics, and motion through space. When viewed from the surface of Terra, the Hyades form part of the head of the constellation Taurus, the Bull.
- The Cluster is visible to the naked eye on worlds across the region.
The core of the Cluster is a little more than two parsecs across and contains more than 70 stars, including a number of blue stellar giants. The tidal influence of the stars at its core can be measured around ten parsecs away from the core region. The extended halo of stars associated with the cluster (stars sharing very similar physical characteristics and motion) extends rimward deep into Canopus Sector, to spinward into the Ustral Quadrant and Dark Nebula sectors, coreward into Magyar Sector, and trailing into Aldebaran Sector and the Solomani Rim. Many of the stars within this region are in the process of escaping from the cluster.
