Savage Main

A popular term for what is formally called the New Libdis-Pindur Main, an astrographic phenomenon consisting of 67 worlds in Magyar and Dark Nebula sectors.

First settled by Terran emigres following the Interstellar Wars, many of its worlds were absorbed by the Aslan during the Long Night, or else interdicted. This caused many Human populations to lapse technologically to pre-stellar levels; some dropped all the way to the stone age.

The name "Savage Main" is tied in modern usage to popular culture. In 290 a lurid fantasy novel by one Sol Altamura of Beagle was published: The Savage Main, an ahistorical, swashbuckling adventure on the edge of Aslan space. Over the next 200 years it spawned an entire genre of 'Aslanic Romance' that continues to reverberate in the popular culture of both the modern Third Imperium and Solomani Confederation.
