Erloufteaw is a nonindustrial, fluidic hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • This world is part of the Aslan Hierate, as a world where multiple clans have split control of the planet, in the Siei Subsector of Dark Nebula Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

This system is part of the Khtyu Cluster.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Although the atmosphere is dominated by nitrogen and carbon dioxide, Erloufteaw supports a vibrant biosphere of exotic life. This includes a handful of megafauna species, including the dangerous hyulr eel -- a burrowing predator growing up to 7 metres in length.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

A former productive mining world, Erloufteaw is dotted with abandoned mining settlements alongside a few active ones. Although much more powerful clans once had large holdings here, these were relinquished over the centuries and control is now split between a dozen minor clans too small to have offworld holdings.

Large sections of the backcountry are empty; particularly brave or foolish wildcat prospectors occasionally venture into these areas, hoping to discover a vein not yet played out. The clans are extremely paranoid about trespassers and suspicious of any Travellers.

World Starport[edit]

Erloufteaw has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Erloufteaw has a population of 2,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Languages[edit]

  • Trokh: The universal language of the modern Aslan monoculture.
    • Aslan Languages: Note that some Aslan clans retain obscure or archaic languages for personal use in addition to Trokh.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Erloufteaw possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Erloufteaw has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Law (L)[edit]

Erloufteaw has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked, and destinations must often be declared when traveling substantial distances across the world.

Criminal acts are rare but not unheard of in Aslan society. Crimes are different from the insults or slurs that provoke duels, and are classified into three categories: crimes of passion, crimes with victims, and crimes of honour.

  • Crimes of passion involve misbehavior prompted by temper, anger, or provocation. The accused is judged by the head of the family, pride, or clan involved.
  • Crimes with victims involve taking money or items of value, or violating the person of another for profit (kidnapping, terrorism, piracy). General practice is to have an impartial earleatrais consider the case and present findings.
  • Crimes of honour involve failure to observe the rituals established for social behaviour. Judgement is made by the pride or clan head, depending on the severity of the crime. Crimes of honour are the most serious in Aslan society; in practice, most are never tried as a duel to the death occurs first.
