The Mwawmbijebe of Kualakhtaea are a technologically primitive Minor Non-Human Race with a semi-humanoid appearance.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Mwawmbjijebe are upright, bipedal, vaguely humanoid sophonts standing roughly 1.4 meters in height, massing an average of 60 kilograms, with broad features. They have short, flattened, splayed digits originally adapted for support in the marshes and bogs in which they first evolved. Their mouth is a wide, almost shell-shaped structure, evolved for "scooping" and trapping prey.

They are now fairly advanced, having achieved mostly stone age and early metal age technology on their own.

The Mwawmbijebe originally evolved on another continent to that on which their prime civilization (as reckoned by Aslan observers) is located. Their ancestors found the marshy mouth of the Tyssuon ("Life-Giving") River ideal for settlement, and founded a community there approximately one thousand years ago. The original colony on the continent expanded steadily until three distinct communities could be found along the Tyssuon River. However, only the Gentaa settlement still maintains contact with Mwawmbijebe communities elsewhere on the planet, through their limited sea trade.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Mwawmbijebe are known to the Aslan of Clan Aeahekihiykhiy, who maintain missions on their world, as the Haoakhtesea ('Dwellers of the Damp Earth').

The missions on Kualakhtaea are operated by a single ahriy within the Aeahekihiykhiy, the Khitaift. Most of the Khitaift males have been killed off in clan wars. Aeahekihiykhiyko gave the almost all-female family the obligation of preparing the Mwawmbijebe to become acceptable vassals.

Society[edit]

There are three major societal blocs in the region where Aslan have established their missions.

Gentaa[edit]

A culture based at the mouth of the great Tyssuon river. Remembering their descent from sailor-colonists, the Mwawmbijebe of Gentaa go out of their way to present a cultured, sophisticated community. The citizenry are very proud of their villages, and exhibit this pride through superior craftsmanship in most forms of art and architecture. The Gentaa maintain armed patrols (with metal tipped spears) along their perimeter with the jungle. They have a population of roughly seven thousand villagers, of which five hundred are professionally trained soldiers. The king's court and palace are the central features of the Gentaa's largest village. They are the group who have had most contact with Aslan.

Reassuon[edit]

The Reassuon live farther upriver. Many Reassoun are hunters and trappers in the jungle, bringing in a fair portion of the foodstuffs for their community. Reassuon technology lags somewhat behind that of their southern neighbors, the Gentaa. There are no metal weapons, though their stone weapons are very well made. Reassuon are not as attentive to artistic detail as the Gentaa, being a much poorer community, concerned more with everyday survival than aesthetic appeal. The Reassuon have a population of approximately five thousand, one thousand of which are trained warriors. Distance from their home near Quatluun Falls makes the Reassuon nervous, and they rarely venture far from there.

Hill Dwellers[edit]

The hill dwellers, farther north still, are quite numerous compared to the Reassuon and Gentaa communities. Fighting between warrior tribes is almost continuous, using clubs, primitive stone-tipped spears, and dart guns. Occasionally, tribes venture south for plunder of Mwawmbijebe societies further down the Tyssuon. Social structure within the tribe is very loose. There exists a warrior chieftain, who can be replaced if defeated in mortal combat. All others are subordinate to the chieftain, whose authority is enforced by a personal group of warriors, generally his immediate male relatives. However, most chieftains will obey edicts handed down by Mwawm-khantii, a wise hermit living in the mountains to the north. Mwawm-khantii has had prior contact with the Gentaa and the Aslan, and respects their ways.
