Thaku Fung Sector, also known as Zhiaqrqiats Sector and formerly known as Sigma Zephyrus Sector, is located coreward of the Vargr Extents, on that region's spinward end. This is the edge of what is usually considered Charted Space.
Description (Specifications)
The Vargr Extents and Zhodani Consulate both make claims to this region, but of the two, only the Vargr have colonies actually within the sector, so their name has precedence in the eyes of the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service.
This sector was largely uninhabited until -1685, when the Solomani Preserve colony ships arrived. Most of Charted Space still thought it was mostly barren until 1103, when an IISS scout reached Havensmith and got away again with sector maps.

Rift Regions
A basic chart showing rift regions within Thaku Fung Sector:
Nature of Rifts
Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic concept based purely on Jump Drive performance.
Rift regions generally relate to regular commercial traffic and the way it travels between destinations. Merchant vessels with jump-4 drives or better are fairly rare because of the higher costs involved in operating the vessel, the lower revenue generated by the reduced cargo space due to the need for large fuel tanks, and the relative paucity of technologically advanced maintenance facilities within the region. As a result, the vast majority of merchant vessels are capable of jump-3 or less.
- Large areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.
- The exact nature and borders of a rift may be determined by specific circumstances, tradition, or other locally important criteria.
In order to qualify as a rift, the region must have ten or more contiguous hexes. Many areas have minor void regions that are too small to qualify as a true rift, but are still significant enough to seriously hamper and channel interstellar travel.
History & Background (Dossier)
By coincidence (as detailed in Solomani Preserve), as of 1105 most of the sophonts of this sector use the same year numbers as the Imperial Calendar.
The history of this sector is largely the history of the Solomani Preserve. See that entry for more information.

Historical Eras
By coincidence (as detailed in Solomani Preserve), as of 1105 most of the sophonts of this sector use the same year numbers as the Imperial Calendar.
The history of this sector is essentially the history of the Solomani Preserve. See that article for details.
Sector Timeline
Major events that have affected this sector and the wider region that it lies within:
- -9235: to rimward the Vilani discover jump drive technology. Over the centuries pioneers and settlers gradually spread across the core regions of Charted Space.
- -4045 to -2204: the Ziru Sirka controls vast territories.
- -3810: the Vargr discover jump technology and begin an era of expansion.
- -3700s onwards: waves of Vargr settle worlds across the Extents. Due to its vast distance from the core regions few Vargr ever reached the sector.
- -2431: Terrans discover jump drive technology.
- -2404 to -2215: the Interstellar Wars. The young Terran Confederation battles against and ultimately triumphs over the ancient Vilani Ziru Sirka.
- -2204 to -1776: the Rule of Man administers the former Ziru Sirka.
- -1862 to -1110: the Terran Mercantile Community controls the former territory of the Terran Confederation.
- -1776 to 0: the Long Night. There is widespread regression and some worlds become barren.
- circa -1700: Vargr expansion and settlement gradually ceases.
- -1690: start of the Flight of the Phoenix 2800.
- -1685: end of the colony flight; Havensmith established, VoidBridge 1 seeded.
- -1683) Anagathica and its natural anagathics discovered, colony established.
- -1682: Grand Survey, remaining VoidBridges seeded. The Yaskoydri Technocracy is contacted in secret; Bridgeholm colonized.
- -1500s: Relaxation of restrictions against crossing Cheaters' Route; colonization of Vapor.
- -777 to -305: The Hatching (colonization of remaining Grand Survey systems except for Bridgeholm).
- sometime between -590 and 1: Original Bridgeholm colony hits Singularity and vanishes.
- circa -200: Vargr expansion increases, with a few worlds being settled within the subsectors along the sector's rimward fringe. The Break Worlds region is more stringently enforced.
- The Year 0: far to rimward, the Third Imperium is founded.
- The Year 1: Bridgeholm recontacted, formal contact with Yaskoydri Technocracy.
- 300-420: the Imperial First Survey charts the system.
- 503: sales of anagathics to parties spinward restricted, amid fears the Tijian Khaganate has reverse-engineered them.
- 995-1065: the Imperial Second Survey charts the system.
- circa 1040: the Empress Wave, believed to be a bizarre, massive jumpspace anomaly, enters the coreward edge of the sector.
It travels at around 1 parsec per year in a rimward direction, leaving a wake of disruption and chaos as it passes. - 1043: the Empress Wave passes over Talienda.

Territorial Overview: 1105
The following table details the subsectors within this area:
Territorial Overview Subsector Name Worlds / Systems
Dominant Allegiance Remarks Subsector A Nest 16 Rho Cluster This area contains the trailing portion of the Rho Cluster, and some independent worlds. Subsector B Warding Beak 19 Solomani Preserve This is a frontier region of the Solomani Preserve. Subsector C Second Wing 13 Solomani Preserve This is a core region of the Solomani Preserve. Subsector D Stasis Tail 18 Solomani Preserve This is a frontier region of the Solomani Preserve. - The Third Imperium's single holding in this sector is located here: the IISS controlled world Geokha.
Subsector E Smoke 11 Non-Aligned This area has many unaligned colony worlds, though the Corsair Lyceum is pressuring Fie's Teeth, resulting in an impromptu military coalition among worlds in this area to resist. Subsector F Crest Minirift 4 Non-Aligned This area is largely devoid of systems. Only one of the worlds is inhabited. Subsector G Old Perch 15 Solomani Preserve This area is largely empty, but is the oldest and most developed region of the Solomani Preserve. Between these factors, as of 1105 it has almost as many VoidBridges as systems. For many centuries after the Preserve's founding, it contained the entire Solomani Preserve. Subsector H Fallow 6 Barren Worlds This is a largely empty, and completely uninhabited, area. Subsector I Firepit 14 Non-Aligned This area was never intensely populated. The Empress Wave left only two worlds in this region with sophont population, neither of them in any position to care about affairs beyond their systems, a state that persists as of 1105. Subsector J Phi's Sauna 9 Barren Worlds This area contains the legendary Hell World final resting place of Phi, who mutinied from the Solomani Preserve's colonization fleet near the end of their journey. Nobody lives here now, save for occasional archaeological expeditions. Subsector K Cheaters' Route 9 Barren Worlds This area holds the core portion of the Cheaters' Route, a trade route between the Solomani Preserve and the Vargr Extents. It is deliberately uninhabited; Solomani Preserve presence to maintain the Solomani Preserve Break Worlds is typically most intense in this region. Subsector L Vargrwall 10 Barren Worlds This area is unpopulated, and serves as one of the primary Solomani Preserve Break Worlds regions. Subsector M Gnuukechk 18 Barren Worlds This area is unpopulated, and serves as one of the primary Solomani Preserve Break Worlds regions. Subsector N Reurrkechk 14 Barren Worlds This area is unpopulated, and serves as one of the primary Solomani Preserve Break Worlds regions. Subsector O Kiden 13 Vargr Extents Though sparsely populated and with no worlds part of any interstellar polity, this area can be considered part of the coreward edge of the Vargr Extents. Subsector P Rrourzdaekh 7 Vargr Extents Though sparsely populated and with no worlds part of any interstellar polity, this area can be considered part of the coreward edge of the Vargr Extents.
