Spinlight is an agricultural, nonindustrial, and pre-rich garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to incrementally rise barring outside forces. The world will grow even quicker when its industrial sector begins to develop.
  • This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Preserve in the Warding Beak Subsector of Thaku Fung Sector.

Mainworld Data[edit]

No information yet available.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Spinlight is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Spinlight has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Spinlight has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

World Starport[edit]

Spinlight has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

There is a highport, that hosts the headquarters of Spinlight Corporation. Visiting starships may dock there, but must obtain permission from Spinlight Corporation to enter the atmosphere. This keeps most off-world business in one location, where Spinlight Corporation can monitor it. As a result, lowports are somewhat of an ad hoc affair, rarely better than class H.

World Technology Level[edit]

Spinlight possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government[edit]

Spinlight is governed by a Corporate Polity with a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. A company town, or world. The typical corporate run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.

World Law Level[edit]

Spinlight has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.

Officially, there is no law save corporate policy and (usually mentioned begrudgingly) Solomani Preserve law.

Unofficially, as of 1105 Solomani Preserve law enforcement keeps an office on the highport due to the many violations it keeps finding, but - in every case in the past few decades - definitive proof never found tying it to Spinlight Corporation upper management. The office has managed to shut down sophont trafficking, smuggling humans from spinward and then claiming they were Spinlight natives, and has recently broken up an operation wherein humans were born and raised under confined conditions then slaughtered to provide hearts, lungs, and other organs for sale.

Offworlders can be secure in a basic level of rights, if only because Spinlight Corporation upper management knows well the trouble that treating offworlders the same way might bring (having seen what happened to their trafficking division). This barely keeps Spinlight above an Amber Zone advisory.

World Culture[edit]

In theory, Spinlight should be the more populous cousin of Fouste. It has more land, better air, and better access to the spinward portion of Thaku Fung Sector.

In practice, Spinlight Corporation's profit-seeking rule clashes heavily with Fouste's laid back agricultural ideal, and far more immigrants head to Fouste instead.

Still, for anyone seeking a new life of honest work, Spinlight Corporation does not do background checks on new employees. One's new neighbor could be a former mass murderer and few would ever know, so long as they do not commit any further such violence. (That said, Solomani Preserve law enforcement checks every job applicant against the Preserve's Most Wanted database, and has caught a few that way.)
