Description (Specifications)[edit]

Astrographic Features & Trade Routes[edit]

The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding the subsector:

  • The subsector is an average stellar density region.
  • There is no single brightest star: the subsector contains multiple white main sequence stars of similar brightness.
  • A single rift region lies within the rimward part of the subsector.
  • A number of unnamed trade routes, some utilizing VoidBridges, cross the region.

Stellar Distribution[edit]

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Warding Beak Subsector.

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.

Rift Regions[edit]

Nature of Rifts[edit]

Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic concept based purely on Jump Drive performance.

Rift regions generally relate to regular commercial traffic and the way it travels between destinations. Merchant vessels with jump-4 drives or better are fairly rare because of the higher costs involved in operating the vessel, the lower revenue generated by the reduced cargo space due to the need for large fuel tanks, and the relative paucity of technologically advanced maintenance facilities within the region. As a result, the vast majority of merchant vessels are capable of jump-3 or less.

  • Large areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.
  • The exact nature and borders of a rift may be determined by specific circumstances, tradition, or other locally important criteria.

In order to qualify as a rift, the region must have ten or more contiguous hexes. Many areas have minor void regions that are too small to qualify as a true rift, but are still significant enough to seriously hamper and channel interstellar travel.

Subsector Summary[edit]

Warding Beak, subsector B of Thaku Fung contains 14 worlds with an estimated population of 790 million, a per capita income of Cr3,743, and a total economy is BCr2,957. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr0 through 8 starports (0 Class A, 1 Class B, 6 Class C, 1 Class D) employing 115 people. Driving this interstellar trade are four Agricultural (Ag) worlds, no Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, one Pre-Agricultural (Pa) world, one Pre-Industrial (Pi) world, no Rich (Ri) worlds, and no Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Warding Beak maintain one Scout base. The average technology level is 5 (with most between 0 and 9). The highest technology level is 11 at Corst (Thaku Fung 1501).

Warding Beak, subsector B of Thaku Fung contains 16 stars and 159 identified planets; ten monostellar systems, three binary systems, no trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 13 of the 14 systems (92%) have native gas giants. There are no Asteroid (As) belts, one Desert (De) world, three Garden (Ga) worlds, no Ice-capped (Ic) worlds, no Poor (Po) worlds, two Vacuum (Va) worlds, and one Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) world.

Warding Beak has an estimated population of 790 million distributed across no High population (Hi) worlds, two Moderate population (Ph) worlds, five Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, no Low population (Lo) worlds, and five Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population worlds are Seed (Thaku Fung 1206) and Corst (Thaku Fung 1501). The population consists of 1 sophont groups.

Solomani Preserve[edit]

The Solomani Preserve has jurisdiction over eight worlds with an estimated population of 90 million, a per capita income of Cr4,388, and a total economy is BCr395. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr0 through 3 starports (0 Class A, 0 Class B, 2 Class C, 1 Class D) employing 90 people. Driving this interstellar trade are three Agricultural (Ag) worlds, no Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, no Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, no Rich (Ri) worlds, and no Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Solomani Preserve maintain one Scout base. The average technology level is 3 (with most between 0 and 7). The highest technology level is 9 at Spinlight (Thaku Fung 1408) and Fouste (Thaku Fung 1609).

The Solomani Preserve has an estimated population of 90 million distributed across no High population (Hi) worlds, no Moderate population (Ph) worlds, two Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, no Low population (Lo) worlds, and four Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Fouste (Thaku Fung 1609). The population consists of 1 sophont groups.

Unknown[edit]

The Unknown has jurisdiction over three worlds with an estimated population of 700 million, a per capita income of Cr3,660, and a total economy is BCr2,562. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr0 through 2 starports (0 Class A, 1 Class B, 1 Class C, 0 Class D) employing 25 people. Driving this interstellar trade are no Agricultural (Ag) worlds, no Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, one Pre-Agricultural (Pa) world, one Pre-Industrial (Pi) world, no Rich (Ri) worlds, and no Industrial (In) worlds.

The Unknown has an estimated population of 700 million distributed across no High population (Hi) worlds, two Moderate population (Ph) worlds, no Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, no Low population (Lo) worlds, and one Barren (Ba) world. The highest population worlds are Seed (Thaku Fung 1206) and Corst (Thaku Fung 1501). The population consists of 1 sophont groups.

Non-Aligned, Human-dominated[edit]

There are three Non-Aligned Human-dominated worlds in Warding Beak with an estimated population of less than 1 million.

Major Historical Events Timeline[edit]

Major events that have affected this subsector and the wider region that it lies within:

Later Historical Eras[edit]

In general, "Later Historical Eras" refers to events that occur post-1116 – a date that marks the beginning of the Rebellion, which ultimately led to the collapse of the Third Imperium. The year 1116 is seen as a historical dividing line, as it were, between the old and the new.

The Imperial Rebellion and its consequences were largely meaningless on the far coreward edge of Charted Space – for worlds in Thaku Fung Sector the key historical event that marked the divide between the old and the new was the Empress Wave. In this context, "Later Historical Eras" generally refers to the events in the years, decades, and centuries following the passage of the Wave.

  • The Wave entered the coreward edge of the subsector around the year 1040, passing through its territory at a rate of roughly 1 parsec per year, and exited the rimward edge of the subsector around the year 1050. Its effects varied from world to world, but were never good: it left insanity, societal collapse, and death in its wake.
