History & Background (Dossier)

Kiden was hit hard by the Empress Wave, losing approximately 99% of its population between the Wave's immediate effects, emigration due to warning from the Solomani Preserve, and abandonment of ruined cities once the remaining population had recovered their sanity. Its downfall triggered migrations and protective solutions in nearby worlds; unfortunately, its value as a warning did not spread more than a few subsectors.

World Starport

Kiden has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Kiden possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

Kiden Law Levels prohibit Shotguns, all non-medicinal Narcotics, seditious speech threatening Kiden Trade and Commerce, and despite the presence of cultural psionics in Akumgeda, psionics use is regulated to "under the table" use and is kept hidden from the Gvegh or other races who might find the mental powers intimidating.

Kiden features planetside, aerospace, orbital and in-system military services. The Merchant Marine is a popular Career for the armed services.

• 8 Resources Moderate - Kiden is not known for plentiful peaks in valuable Resources despite its Agricultural (Ag) Classification. Agricultural instead refers more to Kiden's ability to process what foodstuffs through its Generally Available Infrastructure and make products available for export.
• 6 Millions Labor - With a Population of 70 million, Kiden can field millions of Vargr in the labor sector with help from its urbanization ratings. It is hoped that this will spur the world toward High-Population (Hi) and Industrial (In) Codes and a wealthier world.
