Description (Specifications)[edit]

Astrographic Features & Trade Routes[edit]

The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding the subsector:

Stellar Distribution[edit]

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Stasis Tail Subsector.

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.

Rift Regions[edit]

Nature of Rifts[edit]

Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic concept based purely on Jump Drive performance.

Rift regions generally relate to regular commercial traffic and the way it travels between destinations. Merchant vessels with jump-4 drives or better are fairly rare because of the higher costs involved in operating the vessel, the lower revenue generated by the reduced cargo space due to the need for large fuel tanks, and the relative paucity of technologically advanced maintenance facilities within the region. As a result, the vast majority of merchant vessels are capable of jump-3 or less.

  • Large areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.
  • The exact nature and borders of a rift may be determined by specific circumstances, tradition, or other locally important criteria.

In order to qualify as a rift, the region must have ten or more contiguous hexes. Many areas have minor void regions that are too small to qualify as a true rift, but are still significant enough to seriously hamper and channel interstellar travel.

Subsector Summary[edit]

Stasis Tail, subsector D of Thaku Fung contains 19 worlds with an estimated population of 70 million, a per capita income of Cr7,014, and a total economy is BCr491. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr1 through 3 starports (2 Class A, 0 Class B, 1 Class C, 0 Class D) employing 1,685 people. Driving this interstellar trade are one Agricultural (Ag) world, no Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, no Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, one Rich (Ri) world, and no Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Stasis Tail maintain one Scout base. The average technology level is 1 (with most between 0 and 6). The highest technology level is 14 at Geokha (Thaku Fung 3210).

Stasis Tail, subsector D of Thaku Fung contains 19 stars and 211 identified planets; 17 monostellar systems, one binary system, no trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 16 of the 19 systems (84%) have native gas giants. There are one Asteroid (As) belt, two Desert (De) worlds, three Garden (Ga) worlds, one Ice-capped (Ic) world, three Poor (Po) worlds, three Vacuum (Va) worlds, and one Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) world.

Stasis Tail has an estimated population of 70 million distributed across no High population (Hi) worlds, no Moderate population (Ph) worlds, one Non-industrial (Ni) world, one Low population (Lo) world, and 15 Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Bath (Thaku Fung 2510). The population consists of 3 sophont groups.

Unknown[edit]

The Unknown has jurisdiction over ten worlds with an estimated population of less than 1 million, a per capita income of Cr0, and a total economy is BCr0. Driving this economy are no Agricultural (Ag) worlds, no Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, no Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, no Rich (Ri) worlds, and no Industrial (In) worlds.

The Unknown has no inhabitants.

Solomani Preserve[edit]

The Solomani Preserve has jurisdiction over eight worlds with an estimated population of 70 million, a per capita income of Cr7,014, and a total economy is BCr491. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr1 through 2 starports (1 Class A, 0 Class B, 1 Class C, 0 Class D) employing 1,685 people. The average technology level is 2 (with most between 0 and 6). The highest technology level is 11 at Bath (Thaku Fung 2510).

The Solomani Preserve has an estimated population of 70 million distributed across no High population (Hi) worlds, no Moderate population (Ph) worlds, no Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, one Low population (Lo) world, and five Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Bath (Thaku Fung 2510). The population consists of 3 sophont groups.

Client State, Third Imperium[edit]

The Client States of the Third Imperium in Stasis Tail encompasses one world with an estimated population of less than 1 million.

Major Historical Events Timeline[edit]

Major events that have affected this subsector and the wider region that it lies within:

Later Historical Eras[edit]

In general, "Later Historical Eras" refers to events that occur post-1116 – a date that marks the beginning of the Rebellion, which ultimately led to the collapse of the Third Imperium. The year 1116 is seen as a historical dividing line, as it were, between the old and the new.

The Imperial Rebellion and its consequences were largely meaningless on the far coreward edge of Charted Space – for worlds in Thaku Fung Sector the key historical event that marked the divide between the old and the new was the Empress Wave. In this context, "Later Historical Eras" generally refers to the events in the years, decades, and centuries following the passage of the Wave.

  • The Wave entered the coreward edge of the subsector around the year 1040, passing through its territory at a rate of roughly 1 parsec per year, and exited the rimward edge of the subsector around the year 1050. Its effects varied from world to world, but were never good: it left insanity, societal collapse, and death in its wake.
