Fie's Teeth is an agricultural, nonindustrial, pre-rich world with a growing agro-economy, but still lacks an adequate population to expand its economy to a rich status.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- This world has promising economic future although it needs to recruit a larger labor force in order to achieve the desired prosperity.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Smoke Subsector of Thaku Fung Sector.
Astrography and planetology[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x7 secondary rocky worlds.
- x3 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld is surrounded by a dense sphere of orbiting debris.
- Though it varies in density, the sphere of wreckage extends to over 100 diameters from the world.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Fie's Teeth is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Fie's Teeth has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.
Debris in orbit that rains down is generally caught and burned up in the atmosphere. There is not enough mass of burned up debris to taint the atmosphere yet, though some locals are working on chemical capture efforts - mostly, engineering trees to scrub metals and chemical pollutants from the air - to keep the atmosphere breathable.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Fie's Teeth has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
As of 1105, Fie's Teeth is a frontline against the Corsair Lyceum. The system is heavily patrolled, mostly by System Defense Boats built in Beegrass or Yeree, imported, and flown by local crews. Opposing them is a sporadic but continuing stream of Corsair Lyceum raiders who jump in (near Fie's Teeth or one of its gas giants), attack anything nearby, then either jump out before they can be counterattacked if there are SDBs nearby, or fill their holds with salvage from the floating debris then jump out.
The locals have Ghost Galleons available, limiting the size of SDBs that can be carried to 1,000 tons, though in practice they never carry any one boat more than 600 tons, and the majority of the boats they deliver are no more than 200 tons. With few nearby still-functioning friendly Class A Starports to make more starships, the Ghost Galleons have become priority targets, and as such use some of their cargo capacity for SDBs assigned as permanent escorts (similar to battle riders) instead of for delivery. 16 years of war have left the Fie's Teeth 100 diameter zone (and to a lesser extent, the 100 diameter zones of the gas giants) a dangerous minefield of debris, but still the deliveries come, as do the raids.
If this system were near the Third Imperium, it would easily qualify as a Red Zone. Alas, Fie's Teeth is too far from the Rho Cluster or Solomani Preserve for them to enforce such a zone, but the Corsair Lyceum is not yet able to enforce its will either.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Fie's Teeth has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
The debris field around the world makes a highport impractical.
World Population (P)[edit]
Fie's Teeth has a population of 700,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- The population almost entirely consists of humans of Solomani descent.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Fie's Teeth possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Fie's Teeth is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
World Military[edit]
Primarily naval services, dedicated to preventing the Corsair Lyceum from establishing a foothold. On any world or moon other than Fie's Teeth itself, if there were any such foothold it would be the victim of orbital bombardment as soon as forces could get there. On Fie's Teeth, invaders would face a cannibalized military with only a few thousand troops remaining, essentially entirely light infantry with unarmored and barely armed grav vehicle transports.
World Law (L)[edit]
Fie's Teeth has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 0 (unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: A (abundant)
- Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
- Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
- Efficiency: +4 (advanced)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 5 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: 5 (very aloof)
- Strangeness: 2 (typical)
- Symbols: 5 (concrete)
World Timeline[edit]
Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:
- -9235: to rimward the Vilani discover jump drive technology. Over the centuries pioneers and settlers gradually spread across the core regions of Charted Space.
- -4045 to -2204: the Ziru Sirka controls vast territories.
- -3810: the Vargr discover jump technology and begin an era of expansion.
- -3700s onwards: waves of Vargr settle worlds across the Extents. Due to its vast distance from the core regions few Vargr ever reached the sector.
- -2431: Terrans discover jump drive technology.
- -2404 to -2215: the Interstellar Wars. The young Terran Confederation battles against and ultimately triumphs over the ancient Vilani Ziru Sirka.
- -2204 to -1776: the Rule of Man administers the former Ziru Sirka.
- -1862 to -1110: the Terran Mercantile Community controls the former territory of the Terran Confederation.
- -1776 to 0: the Long Night. There is widespread regression and some worlds become barren.
- circa -1700: Vargr expansion and settlement gradually ceases.
- -1690: Solomani colonists depart Terran space.
- -1685: the Solomani Preserve is founded.
- circa -200: Vargr expansion increases, with a few worlds being settled within the subsectors along the sector's rimward fringe. The Break Worlds region is more stringently enforced.
- The Year 0: far to rimward, the Third Imperium is founded.
- 300-420: the Imperial First Survey charts the system.
- 995-1065: the Imperial Second Survey charts the system.
- circa 1040: the Empress Wave, believed to be a bizarre, massive jumpspace anomaly, enters the coreward edge of the sector.
It travels at around 1 parsec per year in a rimward direction, leaving a wake of disruption and chaos as it passes. - 1065: the Second Survey is published.
- circa 1080: the Empress Wave exits the rimward edge of the sector.
