Rustbreeze is a barren world with no overt population, government, or law level.
- This world could be populated if anyone had an inclination to do so...
- It is a member of the Solomani Preserve in the Second Wing Subsector of Thaku Fung Sector.
- This die back world was once settled and developed, but the inhabitants have either died off or left, leaving behind the ruins and remnants of their civilization.
- As of 1105, Rustbreeze has been selected for recolonization by the Solomani Preserve. The first colonists are expected to arrive in 1106.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
The majority of worlds in the Imperium and beyond, officially at least, do not yet know of the existence of the Solomani Preserve – the Preserve has gone to great lengths to keep its presence concealed. According to the most up-to-date Imperial AAB Library Data, drawn from long-range surveys dated to around 1100, this is a barren, non-aligned, unclaimed world lying in an uninhabited wilderness region on the very edge of Charted Space. On most official Imperial records its UWP is listed as:
Thaku Fung 1906 X575000-0 Ba 015 NaXX F9 V D
Note that formal relations were established with the Imperium in 1105 via the Imperial Scout Base at Geokha. This included an exchange of data, including each member system's updated Universal World Profile, but it is likely to be years or decades before this information fully disseminates across Charted Space. Until then, many databases will continue to include the outdated pre-1105 survey data.
Stellar Data[edit]
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x7 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
- x5 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Rustbreeze is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Rustbreeze's high density places its gravity on the high side for its size, at 0.55 Gs.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Rustbreeze has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
The atmospheric taint is specifically pollen from the dominant grass (high in iron content, thus this world's name). It is often present in concentrations high enough to damage unprotected human and Vargr lungs.
The planned recolonization effort intends to source colonists from Havensmith, who would be equipped with the filter implants that are common on Havensmith. A facility to manufacture these implants locally, to assist incoming would-be colonists without said implants, is high on the list of infrastructure to repair after the starport.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Rustbreeze has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Primitive native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
The most advanced native lifeforms are algae and early land animals, roughly the equivalent of Terra's Cambrian period. A local kelp analogue, edible to humans without much processing, was one of Rustbreeze's more notable exports. The dominant grass ("blood grass", with a deep red color) incorporates a notably high level of iron, especially in its pollen.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Rustbreeze's crust is high in iron and heavy metals, enough that – prior to the Empress Wave – it was a source of ores competitive with belt mining.
Rustbreeze is a Die Back World. Over the centuries, various outposts have been located on this world. Some have served as military or scientific facilities, while others were the sites of survey bases or resource extraction operations. Some have long been derelict while others were abandoned or deliberately shut down as the local population evacuated ahead of the approaching Empress Wave. In such cases, for whatever reason, the former residents have not returned.
- These are favorite locations for adventurers and treasure seekers, among others. A wealth of valuable artifacts can be found by those willing to skirt laws which assert that the state or an organization has possession of such objects, rather than the individual who recovered them.
The world was completely evacuated circa 1043-1045 ahead of the Empress Wave, leaving all buildings and infrastructure sealed and intact. The Wave hit other worlds harder than expected (even causing the plant life to damage the infrastructure), so it would be about 50 years until formal recolonization requests began being considered. As of 1105, Rustbridge has been formally opened for recolonization, removing the (equivalent of) Amber zone advisory, but no permanent population has returned yet. Among other things, the starport needs to be repaired and brought back into operation first; the repair crew is not counted towards the world's official population.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Rustbreeze does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.
The Empress Wave caused the biosphere aboard the highport to warp, causing enough damage to the nearby power plant that the station shut down. Without station-keeping maneuver drives, it took slightly under a year to deorbit, making an impressive crater. Using fuel tank capacity normally reserved for transfer to visiting starships, the highport had slightly over a year's worth of fuel; the plan had been to return once a year (the first visit after a bit more than a year, to be safe) to perform annual maintenance until recolonization was approved. While this plan proved moot at the first annual visit, the pre-Empress Wave preparation to set up for these visits helped put Rustbreeze at the head of the line for recolonization.
Plant growth caused by the Empress Wave cracked the downport's landing pads enough that they are generally unusable - making for a Class X Starport - though very careful landing is still possible, and this is what the repair crew has been using. It is expected that they will repair enough landing pads to upgrade the downport to a Class E Starport no later than early 1106. It is also planned to have an orbital fuel depot - the first step toward a replacement highport - operational by then. Further repairs are planned to happen in sync with recolonization; it is hoped that the downport can be restored to a Class C Starport by 1110, but that will depend in part on the extent of the damage and how quickly the new colony grows.
World Population (P)[edit]
Rustbreeze is a Barren World with no sophont population. It may still possess lifeforms.
As of 1105, slightly over 20,000 colonists are preparing to resettle Rustbreeze. Their planned date of arrival is in 1106.
World Demographics[edit]
Over 95% of the incoming colonists are human, primarily Solomani. The rest are Vargr.
Urbanization[edit]
There are heavily damaged unpopulated cities, which are planned to be repaired and reclaimed as recolonization progresses. The very first efforts will focus on the farms outside what used to be the capital city, which is intended to be the first reclaimed city.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Rustbreeze has a die back Tech Level of TL–0: the buildings, facilities and infrastructure that exist on the world have largely been stripped of valuable materials and machinery, remaining as empty shells ready to be refurbished.
- The world has no functioning technological base.
Salvage
- Basic raw materials such as worked stone. There may be concealed caches of equipment, manufactured items, or supplies carefully stored away for future usage.
The recolonization planned for 1106 intends to achieve at least TL-9 by the end of 1110.
World Government (G)[edit]
Rustbreeze currently has no government or ruling authority of any kind.
The recolonization planned for 1106 intends to start with a Participating Democracy.
World Military[edit]
There is no military presence on this world, though the repair crew's tools could be put to self-defense if they were threatened.
World Law (L)[edit]
Rustbreeze has no law level. No laws of any kind are enforced.
The recolonization planned for 1106 intends to start with a very low law level.
Trade Data[edit]
With no economy, there is no notable trade.
- Importance: -3 (very unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
There is no formal economy as of 1105. The external flows of capital related to the world's recolonization has not yet, for the most part, actually reached Rustbreeze.
The plan to preserve and protect the world's infrastructure did not account for the Empress Wave's effects on plants. Away from plants (including biospheres, urban greenery, and so on as well as agriculture and wilds), the plan worked well. Mines and quarries in particular are expected to resume operation as soon as overseers for the robotic vehicles can be spared.
- Resources: 4 (scarce)
- Labor: 0 (unpopulated)
- Infrastructure: 0 (non-existent)
- Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)
World Culture[edit]
There is no permanent population as of 1105, but this is expected to change soon.
- Heterogenity: 0 (none)
- Acceptance: 0 (none)
- Strangeness: 0 (none)
- Symbols: 0 (none)
World Timeline[edit]
Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:
- -9235: to rimward the Vilani discover jump drive technology. Over the centuries pioneers and settlers gradually spread across the core regions of Charted Space.
- -4045 to -2204: the Ziru Sirka controls vast territories.
- -3810: the Vargr discover jump technology and begin an era of expansion.
- -3700s onwards: waves of Vargr settle worlds across the Extents. Due to its vast distance from the core regions few Vargr ever reached the sector.
- -2431: Terrans discover jump drive technology.
- -2404 to -2215: the Interstellar Wars. The young Terran Confederation battles against and ultimately triumphs over the ancient Vilani Ziru Sirka.
- -2204 to -1776: the Rule of Man administers the former Ziru Sirka.
- -1862 to -1110: the Terran Mercantile Community controls the former territory of the Terran Confederation.
- -1776 to 0: the Long Night. There is widespread regression and some worlds become barren.
- circa -1700: Vargr expansion and settlement gradually ceases.
- -1690: Solomani colonists depart Terran space.
- -1685: the Solomani Preserve is founded.
- circa -200: Vargr expansion increases, with a few worlds being settled within the subsectors along the sector's rimward fringe. The Break Worlds region is more stringently enforced.
- The Year 0: far to rimward, the Third Imperium is founded.
- 300-420: the Imperial First Survey charts the system.
- 995-1065: the Imperial Second Survey charts the system.
- circa 1040: the Empress Wave, believed to be a bizarre, massive jumpspace anomaly, enters the coreward edge of the sector.
It travels at around 1 parsec per year in a rimward direction, leaving a wake of disruption and chaos as it passes. - 1065: the Second Survey is published.
- circa 1080: the Empress Wave exits the rimward edge of the sector.
UWP Listing[edit]
The UWP data provided in this article reflects 1105 conditions, and (aside from the Size, Atmosphere, and Hydrosphere) is expected to change by the end of 1106 as recolonization commences.
