Phi's Reward is a barren fluid hellworld with oceans consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.

  • This world has no overt population, government, or law level.
  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants.
  • This world could be populated if anyone had an inclination to do so...
  • This die back world was once settled and developed, but the inhabitants have either died off or left, leaving behind the ruins and remnants of their civilization.
  • This is a "forbidden" world designated as a Red Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors. Everyone is forbidden to travel here.

Mainworld Data[edit]

No information yet available.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Phi's Reward is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere[edit]

Phi's Reward has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks. Additionally, protective suits, while not necessary, are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Phi's Reward has 05-15% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Like most hellworlds, Phi's Reward did not support life before the colonists arrived.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

In -1685, as the colony fleet that would found the Solomani Preserve was making its way across what would become known as the Cheaters' Route, captain Phi of the Secure Rapid Arrival mutinied from the fleet. The rest of the fleet thought he jumped early, and misjumped since he was not at the next system; he was mourned as a hotheaded but ultimately unlucky sort. In truth, he took his crew spinward to found a colony elsewhere, not trusting the Solomani Preserve not to be discovered. In his paranoia, he selected a hellworld as the perfect place to hide out.

And hide he did. It would not be until -1332 that a Solomani Preserve scout, exploring the sector, would finally chance across the hulk of the ``Secure Rapid Arrival`` in orbit, and the ruins of the colony below. By then, the colony was quite dead. Reaction from the Preserve was quite negative, pity turned to anger, the historical incident renamed from "Phi's Misjump" to "Phi's Betrayal". The Preserve named the world and subsector after Phi's folly, to warn those would repeat his error of putting hubris ahead of survival.

Later study into why Phi's crew went along with his paranoia suggested that Phi had unwittingly done the early Preserve a favor. Most of the officers who disagreed with the initial plan for Havensmith gathered onto the Secure Rapid Arrival (or the Surfing Lighthouse; see the Grand Survey of the Preserve for that story) during the last few jumps of the colony fleet, providing Havensmith with increased unity among the remaining leadership.

World Starport[edit]

Phi's Reward does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.

World Technology Level[edit]

The ruins of the colony demonstrate Tech Level C (12) upon construction, sliding all the way back to effective TL 3 (far below the level needed to maintain the habitat) before the environmental seals finally failed. It is a textbook case of improper hellworld colony foundation and management (literally: historians with access to both First Imperium texts and logs from Phi's Reward have noted several mistakes in said texts that Phi and his crew appear to have committed).

World Government[edit]

There being no surviving population, there is no government.
