Meshan Sector is a turbulent Vargr-dominated region lying along the coreward border of the Third Imperium.
- It is solidly Vargr Space and part of the Vargr Extents.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Meshan Sector lies close to the trailing side of the Windhorn Rift and has been inhabited for millennia. It is a former part of the Ziru Sirka and is known for its long history, vibrant cultures, and ongoing cultural interaction with the Third Imperium and its predecessor states.
The sector lies directly to coreward of the Imperium.
- Parts of it were once held by the Ziru Sirka and later administered by the Rule of Man.
- Some ambitious Imperial Nobles still consider the sector's rimward subsectors part of the Domain of Antares, even though no official Imperial possession exists.
Astrographic Features[edit]
The following astrographic and commercial data regarding the sector has been determined:
- The sector is largely a standard stellar density region.
- Two major rift regions lie within the sector: the small Arena Rift and a corner of the huge Windhorn Rift.
- The brightest star in the sector is the red bright giant primary of the Akfe Ae system.
- Important trade routes within the sector include the Nudashiir Lagani and the Khuulu Main.
Stellar Distribution[edit]
A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Meshan Sector.
- The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
- The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map).
Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.
- Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
- Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the sector and far beyond.
Rifts and Voids[edit]
The sector forms the rimward-trailing part of the Windhorn Rift.
- The rift hinders travel and commerce within the region.
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic concept based on Jump Drive performance.
The boundaries of rifts were established centuries ago, when the highest commonly encountered tech level was TL–12.
- This level of technology allowed the routine use of up to Jump-3 drives.
- Areas that couldn't be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels were denoted as rifts.
This traditional definition of rift regions remains in use today: while modern high performance starships can easily cross them, most commercial vessels continue to utilize Jump-3 or less drives. Because of this most traffic is concentrated within higher stellar density regions, and as such the classic definition and boundaries of rift regions remains relevant.

Economic Astrography[edit]
Corporations[edit]
Several major corporations operate within the sector:
- Most goods that are transported around the rimward edge of the Windhorn Rift are carried by Gzugzo Lines, a sector-wide company based in Windhorn Sector that also extends services into Meshan Sector.
- Menderes Corporation, based in the Julian Protectorate to trailing, operates within the region.
- The Imperial Megacorporation Naasirka, with strong historical ties to the area, maintains a significant presence within the sector.
Vargr Corsairs[edit]
Vargr Corsair bands can pose a considerable risk to interstellar trade and commerce within the sector.
- Corsairs can often be negotiated with and many accept tribute in return for safe passage through their territory.
- Vessels and crews are advised to travel armed and ready to defend themselves.
Trade Routes[edit]
A number of trade routes exist within this area. Of these, the most important are:
The Nudashiir Lagani[edit]
A number of worlds along the rimward border of the sector lie on the Nudashiir Lagani, the great Lishun-Gashikan Main.
- An eclectic mix of vessels, both human and Vargr, work their ways along the Main, carrying vast amounts of goods and commodities between its member worlds.
- The sector lies towards the lower spinward end of the main.
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
- Meshan Sector is depicted to the left of center.
- Worlds on the Main are highlighted in green.
The Khuulu Main[edit]
The spinward-rimward quadrant of the sector is dominated by the Khuulu Main, an important local trade route.
- It has 41 member systems.
- It forms the spinward frontier of the Opposition Alliance, a Vargr polity.
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
- Worlds lying on the Main are highlighted in tan.
Tukogan Trade Circuit[edit]
The Tukogan Trade Circuit (the TTC) lies at the hub of three major local trade routes, the Gvuekh Cluster, the Khuulu Main, and the spinward terminus of the Nudashiir Lagani.
- It is a fractious trade association made up of disparate interests and groups, with links to many worlds and organizations.
- It facilitates trade and commerce across the region.
- It has a significant degree of influence over the worlds at its core.
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
World Listings[edit]
Comprehensive Second Survey UWP data for all worlds lying within the sector is available.
- The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
- Other sources may contain contradictory or incorrect information.
Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, is likely to be out of date.
- Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
- Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Vargr are the majority population within the sector. Humans from a variety of backgrounds, agile Dhaen, outcast Aezorgh, and wandering Hlanssai may also be met.
Demographics[edit]
The total population of Meshan Sector is estimated at 717.443 billion sophonts.
Significant populations of the following sophont races reside within this sector:
- Terragens (Non-human Terran races)
- Vargr (Major Race): the majority population within the sector.
- Non-Human Races
- Aezorgh of Soghzalghag, in Windhorn Sector: sparsely distributed across the Vargr Extents. Their name translates as vermin.
- Some are integrated into communities but the majority live as opportunistic outcasts on the fringes of society.
- Bwaps of Marhaban, in the Empty Quarter: Bwap communities trailed the Vilani, as elsewhere in Charted Space. The rather chaotic conditions typical of the Vargr Extents are not an environment in which Bwap generally thrive, but some small communities remain as "protected resources" of Vargr or human powers.
- Droyne and Chirpers of Eskayloyt (unknown sector): small communities scattered across the sector.
- Dhaen of Dhaen, in Provence Sector: small, long-bodied, fur-covered humanoids not recognized by the Vargr as being sophont.
- Some Vargr keep them as pets or as servants.
- Hhkar of Skkyhrk, in Amdukan Sector: very large, powerfully built, carnivorous, egg-laying, generally humanoid reptillianoids.
- The species have maintained small settlements and colonies in a broad sphere around their distant homeworld for millennia.
- Hlanssai of Vrirhlanz, in Gzaekfueg Sector: sensual, impulsive, emotional humanoids with a strong wanderlust who may occasionally be encountered in small groups.
- They are considered "unstable" by the notoriously unpredictable Vargr.
- Jgd-il-Jagd of Jagd, in Lishun Sector: gas-giant dwellers. The largest clade of Jgd-il-Jagd encompasses systems within 23 parsecs of Jagd, thus including part of Meshan Sector.
- Aezorgh of Soghzalghag, in Windhorn Sector: sparsely distributed across the Vargr Extents. Their name translates as vermin.
- Humaniti (Human Races)
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are among the most commonly used within this astrographic region:
- Logaksu: a Vargr language widely spoken throughout all parts of the sector. It is the main language of the Empire of Varroerth.
- Ovaghoun: a Vargr language widely spoken within the Ngath Confederation and 17th Disjuncture.
- Mavek Errgh: an occasionally heard local Vargr language.
Other widely spoken languages include:
- Anglic: one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani: one of the two official languages of the Imperium.

General Overview[edit]
Meshan Sector has experienced settlement by three groups of sophonts, and is likely home to several more who are no longer documented. Information on native sophonts in the sector is fragmentary at best. Several sophonts were identified by the Vilani but later proved to be unrecognized lost colonies of Droyne and neither separate nor native. The Droyne still present in Meshan represent the oldest known wave of settlement, taking place sometime long before the Vilani arrived here.
The Vilani initially explored only the rimward and trailing fringes of the sector, following the vast Main present there. The Consolidation Wars would change that, and the Vilani would finish the Wars in control of roughly two-thirds of the sector. While their influence and control faded somewhat during the Ziru Sirka to roughly half of the sector, the fall of their empire to the Terrans and the formation of the Rule of Man would reverse the trend for a while.
After the Rule of Man fractured, the region began to suffer increased Vargr incursions, coming around the Windhorn Rift in both directions. Much of the Human population of Meshan was eventually driven out or killed during the Long Night, generally fleeing toward Vland or to trailing regions of the former Rule of Man which persisted. Vargr control of Meshan was complete by the rise of the Third Imperium, and the Vargr were able to effectively repel the Imperium's attempts to reclaim old Rule of Man and Ziru Sirka territory.
While the Vargr states of Meshan ebb and flow as Vargr states everywhere do, they have retained broad control over Meshan ever since.

Worlds, Systems & Sectors (Political Astrography)[edit]
In 119, following a civil war in the Ikonaz Sphere in the Empty Quarter, the premier power to emerge was the government of Ikon, the Uekfavgrovbr' Syndarchy. Despite its victory the war had cost the Syndicate dearly - its fleets were depleted and many of its worlds were in ruins. It made a deal to limit conflict with major Ovaghoun factions in Meshan Sector that had broken free during the fighting, largely because it was in no position to pursue further hostilities.
This agreement secured existing borders, limiting the Syndarchy to the territory it controlled at that time. It set the Ovaghoun Vargr outside of these borders free from Ikonaz rule, cementing certain rights and instilling a deep and enduring sense of independence within the Ovaghoun of Meshan Sector. Over the following years the nature and enforcement of this agreement redefined the fundamental nature of the Sphere.
In 1097, on the world of Ogaros, Counselor Ahfgaard called together groups and factions who shared her views and officially formed the Ogarous Tribunal. Ahfgaard is a senior judicial official with reactionary views and strong religious convictions, dedicated to collapsing the Antares Pact through legislative processes and replacing it with a new, purer state. Their current activities include forming a political movement and gaining followers, challenging Pact legal decisions, and shady meetings between various interests and factions.
