Lishun Sector is a very old center of Imperial settlement with an extremely high stellar density. Interestingly enough, the area never bred a Imperial Cultural Region or its own strongly distinct culture.

Description[edit]

The area has shown a remarkably stable and uniform culture for many centuries. This stability exists despite a very diverse and polycentric culture and several Minor Human Races and Minor Non-Human Races present -- as well as a very large concentration of Imperial Vargr. Some attribute the uniformity and stability to Vilani influences, as there are very old Vilani settlements here. Curiously enough, it appears that the region was once a Droyne stronghold even though no major population of Droyne have dwelled in the area for more than a millennium. Some suspect the hidden presence of Chirpers.

Linguistic Topography: 1105[edit]

The following languages are among the most commonly used within this astrographic region:

Languages of Humaniti:
» The Transform dialect is standard here.
» Lash: A derivative of Old High Vilani and a historical language in Lishun Sector (still occasionally spoken in some form).
Languages of Vargr:
  • Irilitok: The language family of the most populous Vargr phenotype and ethnic culture within the region.
» Vuakedh: A common Irilitok language in the Domain of Antares.
  • Mavek Errgh: A Vargr language heard in the core-spinward part of the sector.
  • Ovaghoun: The language family of a populous Vargr phenotype and ethnic culture.
Languages of Minor non-Human Races:
  • J'sia languages (see also: Pha, Raiz)
  • Mariel: A common Plexxan language.
  • Wawa-pakekeke-wawa: The common, precise and bureaucratic language of the Bwaps. Spoken on Bwap-dominated planets and by government functionaries on any world lucky enough to retain a dedicated Bwap workforce.

History & Background[edit]

The First Imperium explored the area almost ten millennia ago, but would not fully subdue it until the Consolidation Wars thousands of years later, preferring to exercise economic dominance instead. The Irhadre were early benefactors of Vilani mercantile practices, spreading by purchased jump drive to numerous colonies. Though that colonial effort was curtailed following the Consolidation Wars, the Irhadre remain a strong presence in the rimward parts of the sector.

The Ziru Sirka brought continued development and colonization to the sector, then known as "Lishuun", as outposts, way stations, and resource colonies sprang up to serve local and Imperial interests. As there had been very little here to "consolidate" the sector did not see as much enforcement of the Vilani Peace, and languished somewhat as the Ziru Sirka aged. The sector would fall in line with the general surrender of the Vilani to the Terrans at the end of the Interstellar Wars, and saw an influx of Terran advisors, Governors, and enthusiasm. Following the collapse of the Rule of Man, parts of the sector would continue to thrive at the fringes of Vland's resurgence and the steady economic presence of the coreward successors and the Scorpion Company.

Vargr would enter the sector as explorers, exploiters, and eventually settlers during the Long Night between the Second and Third Imperia. Vargr corsairs still roamed the sector for a century or more after the Third Imperium first entered the region. Eventually the local Vargr adapted to Imperial ways and became enthusiastic interstellar merchants. The rites of passage once associated with a wild and unruly youth with the corsairs became re-associated with joining one of the great mercantile houses. Lishunian Vargr have notably different temperaments than most other Vargr, much more easily socializing with Imperial Vargr and the Vilani.

Another influence on Lishun worlds -- in the spinward regions of the sector -- was the religiously-cloaked "uplift" programs of J'sia missionaries during the Long Night, a practice that ended with renewed Human contact from Core.

Polities found here in the early, expansionist years of the Third Imperium included the Autarchy of Guuurduu.

Interstellar trade in the region is quite rich. Traders from as far away as K'kree, Zhodani, and Hiver space regularly traverse the region.

Major Historical Events Timeline: 1116[edit]

These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this sector:

  • -962 to -930: The Wars of the Reavers are fought in rimward Lishun and coreward Core Sector.
  • -700: J'sia begin sending out starships of their own construction.
    • J'sia God Maker program manipulates regressed worlds through religiously provocative hoaxes.
  • -203: Discovery of the downed Rule of Man vessel Mary Grahrn and its jump drive by Josef DeBont at Guuurduu (Silverring).
    • After nearly 20 years of reverse engineering, DeBont's scientists successfully fathom the workings of the drive. The Autarchy of Guuurduu will arise from his monopoly.
  • Circa -200: Vilani merchants slowly rebuild interstellar trade throughout the Vland and Lishun sectors.
  • -56: The Luumir Bir Rebellion.
    • For 120 years after the decimation of Luumir Bir, Autarchy of Guuurduu policy remains unchallenged by its member worlds.
  • -10: LishunLine, operating in rimward subsectors of Lishun, becomes the first corporation headquartered outside the Sylean realm to be granted a Sylean Federation charter.
  • (0): Third Imperium founded.
  • 64: The Imperial Scout Cruiser, Intrepid Voyage, arrives in Pryden Subsector. It is rebuffed by the Autarchy of Guuurduu.
  • 69: Chanad joins the Third Imperium on favourable terms.
    • This will become controversial when the nature of local custom becomes widely known, as critics consider Chanad's caste system a form of slavery, which would violate the Imperial charter. The initial outcry will cause the political downfall of the Sector Duke of Lishun.
  • 72: A follow-up expedition in Pryden led by Imperial Battle Squadron 56 arrives at Olny, with the express intent of giving jump technology to the planet, and signing a trade and alliance treaty with Olny alone.
    • Massively aided by the Imperium, Olny raises its space technology to TL-13, higher than Guuurduu itself.
  • (76 to 120): Pacification Campaigns
  • (1020): Meson Rebellion

  • 06.00% is controlled by non-Imperial powers.

Imperial Duchies & Districts: 1105[edit]

Lishun Sector has a typical duchy system with Subsector Ducal seats present in all sixteen Subsectors. Historically, four of these are older than the rest, and once held areas of roughly the same size (quadrants) of four subsectors each:

The origins of this historical arrangement are subject to some debate. Vilani authorities claim the larger duchies date to their Empire, but the four Houses who hold the now smaller Subsector-sized Duchies are careful to trace their lineages no farther back than the closing centuries of the Long Night.

Economic Astrography[edit]

Corporations[edit]

  • LishunLine, an incredibly important corporation historically for Imperial expansion into the region.
