History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Unclaimed by any major power, Leonidae is often overlooked when perhaps it shouldn't be. While a great many worlds are unpopulated (and a string of rimward systems are ruined thanks to old wars between the Dynchia and the Ithklur, now enjoying an honourable peace), those pocket empires that arose here are often surprising in what they have to offer. Despite an overall low technology level as measured conventionally, many societies here are uniquely talented in particular fields. Both the democratically inclined Kargol Confederation and the multi-species, Jenda-led Council of Leh Perash boast sophisticated geneticists, while the martial but benevolent Dynchia and the Cytrialin Unity are leaders in environmentally sound industry and ecological balance. The Dynchia and the Ithklur Aexzz (an independent Hive Federation ally used as a buffer by the Hivers) provide highly effective warriors who fight without malice.
There is no overall political forum in Leonidae. Races like the oligarchical, clannish Dynchia and the democratic Kargol prefer loose coalitions, and while the Hive Federation exerts influence over the rimward half of the sector, it hasn't tried to incorporate it.
Native Sophonts: 1105[edit]
The following races (sophont species) are believed to have originated within this area:
Demographics: 1105[edit]
Significant populations of the following races (sophont species) reside within this area:
- Humaniti (Human races)
- Dynchia: Mostly within the Dynchia Comitia; small additional communities elsewhere in the sector.
- Kargol: Mostly within the Kargol Confederation; small additional communities elsewhere in the sector. Wandering city ships on long-range trading missions are also common.
- Lamura
- Lamura Teg: Mostly within the Cytrialin Unity; small additional communities elsewhere in the sector. Almost always found alongside Lamura Gav.
- Solomani (Major Race)
- Solomani Humans are common here, making up sizeable minority populations in Jenda, Kargol, and Dynchia space. Well-integrated into these nations, they know and care little about the Solomani Movement or the Solomani Cause.
- Vilani (Major Race)
- Non-Human Races
- Dishaan: A significant population within the Harodar Hegemony.
- Gniivi: Mostly within the Gniivi Collective; small additional communities and occasional trading posts elsewhere in the sector.
- Gurvin: A sizeable minority population in the Council of Leh Perash; small additional communities and trading posts elsewhere in the sector.
- Hiver (Major Race): A sizeable minority population in the Council of Leh Perash; small additional communities elsewhere in the sector. Wandering Hivers indulging their curiosity might show up almost anywhere.
- Hyumian: A native species. Their youthful wanderlust means that they are commonly found across the sector.
- Ithklur: Mostly within the Ithklur Aexzz; a minority population found in the Council of Leh Perash, with small additional communities elsewhere in the sector.
- Jenda: Mostly within the Council of Leh Perash; small additional communities elsewhere in the sector.
- Karhyri: A minority demographic within the coreward systems of the Cytrialin Unity, which shares a border with the Karhyri Worlds in Crucis Margin Sector.
- Lamura
- Lamura Gav: Mostly within the Cytrialin Unity; small additional communities elsewhere in the sector. Almost always found alongside Lamura Teg.
- Melorr: Mostly on their homeworld, which they share with Humans.
Major Historical Events Timeline: 1116[edit]
These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this sector:
- 300,000 years ago: The Ancients settle genetically altered Humans on Kargol and Melantris.
- -1926: The Dynchia of Melantris launch their first space probes.
- -1820: The Dynchia have achieved a TL-8 spacefaring culture. Soon after, Solomani arrive and make contact, bringing with them the jump drive.
- During the collapse of the Rule of Man, a number of Solomani migrate into the Melantris region. Some Solomani settlements are incorporated into Dynchia society.
- Circa -1500: The Dynchia contact the Ithklur Aexzz. Several centuries of skirmishing and cross-border vendettas ensue between these fearless combatants.
- Circa -1200: The princes of the 12 most prominent Dynchia tribes meet in Council to establish the Dynchia Comitia.
- -1056: The Hivers mediate a comprehensive peace between the Comitia and the Ithklur Aexzz, which sets the border of Dynchia expansion to trailing.
- -896: Kargol scientists detect intelligent radio broadcasts emanating from the regressed Solomani colony on Shan's Landing.
- -830: The Kargol and Shan's Landing are in constant contact
- -788: From the alliance of Kargol and Shan's Landing is born the Kargol Confederation.
- 0: To spinward, the Third Imperium is founded.
- Circa 800: The first traders from the Third Imperium arrive in Dynchia space by way of the Harodar Hegemony.

Terran and minor race settlements on the trailing border of the sector form part of the Corona Arc.
