Kargol is a high-population, pre-rich garden world with a billion or more sophonts, and a near-ideal utopian environment conducive to most sophont life, but still lacks adequate population to expand its economy to a rich status.

  • This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the massive extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
  • This world-system has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships, which may be located on or off-world.
  • It is the homeworld of the Kargol.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

This system is part of the Adshum Main.

Stellar Data[edit]

Kargol has a single type-M primary, named Drala.

Kargol has a solitary primary star.

System Data[edit]

The Kargol system is unusual for the number and size of settlements away from the mainworld. Millions of Confederation citizens live in these deep-space settlements.

Dleina is the larger of the Kargol System's two gas giants. Several of its moons are the site of research or mining bases. The largest settlement in Dleina space is the hotel-city Kasa.

Jestoy is the smaller of the gas giants, in the next orbit in from Kargol. To take advantage of its exotic chemistry, the Kargol have built several cities that float in the upper atmosphere.

The system's planetoid belt is moderately rich. Tens of million of nomads work as belters, most living in great mobile ships that travel from asteroid to asteroid searching for rich ore deposits. The largest vessels are huge ore-processing facilities and a number are fitted with jump drives, able to travel between the worlds of the Kargol Confederation -- and beyond -- selling their goods.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Kargol is a cold world, characterized by dark mists, tundra, glaciers, and extensive polar ice caps.

Kargol has a 38 hour day. The average workday for locals is about 10 hours long, with the rest of the day being devoted to home life, recreation, and periodic naps.

Mainworld Atmosphere[edit]

Kargol has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Storm winds are often extreme and can be dangerous.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Five large continents are separated by deep seas. Island chains and glaciers have, however, always permitted migration between the continents.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

Life on Kargol never evolved eyes. Kargol's animals combine keen senses of hearing and smell with large patches of infrared-sensitive skin on their heads and bodies. Life on Kargol also never developed fur, feathers, or any other insulating covering that could block infrared reception; animals are insulated from the cold by thick fat layers.

Native Sophont[edit]

The Kargol are a Minor Human Race planted here by the Ancients.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

To this day, nomad bands are in charge of the planet's transportation and primary resource extraction. Sailors, traveling merchants, scouts, and miners are all nomads. Each of the several interstellar merchant lines based on Kargol is also composed of a single large nomad band.

World Starport[edit]

Kargol has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Sarjoth is the city hosting the primary Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Kargol has a population of 8,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).

World Demographics[edit]

World Languages[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

Kargol cities are typically low and densely built. Stone and brick are traditional building materials. The lengthy history of extensive trade networks has caused cities to be rather specialised in their industries.

Cities include:

  • Jhista (specialises in fine clothing)
  • Sarjoth (primary downport)
  • Thusis (specialises in manufacture of air/rafts)

World Technology Level[edit]

Kargol possesses a Technology Level of TL–14 or TL-E in Hexadecimal Notation.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early meson communicators.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, early collectors, and advanced fusion plants.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:

A typical Kargol device is small, simple to use, and well built; usually extremely finely finished but devoid of overt decoration.

World Government[edit]

Kargol is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

  • The basis for Kargol government is direct democracy. Every citizen is expected to vote on all important issues. Councils of managers are employed to take care of the daily business of government, but there are weekly policy elections. A Kargol world with Government Type 4 (representative democracy) is as close to the spirit of Type 2 (participatory democracy) as possible for the population size.

World Military[edit]

No information yet available.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Kargol has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).

  • -830: The Kargol and Shan's Landing are in constant contact.
  • -788: From the alliance of Kargol and Shan's Landing is born the Kargol Confederation.
  • -586. A Shan expedition discovers a small Ancient base in an asteroid in the Thosta System. A deadly viral plague infects Kargol, claiming around 10% of the population. While fighting the plague, the Confederation works to rediscover and then expand upon Solomani biological science.
