Agricultural World
An Agricultural World possesses a climate and conditions, which promote farming and ranching. It is a producer of inexpensive foodstuffs and may also be a source of unusual, exotic, or strange edible delicacies.
- It may be classified with a Main World or non-MW trade code.
- It is a Planet or world type.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Agricultural worlds produce goods from plants and animals. While this is mostly in the form of sustenance (food) it can also be in the form of plant-based or animal-based textiles, pharmaceuticals, and raw materials used in other industries. Every species of conventional life requires such resources, so worlds that produce quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms are always in demand. Even as technological solutions to producing foodstuffs are invented, most sophonts still greatly prefer "quality food" to more technological substitutes such as vat-grown meat or lab-grown fungal meal supplements.
Planetary Characteristics[edit]
Agricultural worlds are mostly located within the Habitable Zone although exotic crops using unconventional lifeforms are sometimes bred and used slightly outside of the Habitable Zone. Traditionally, by IISS standards, an agricultural world is considered to be located within the hab zone. Agriculture is one of the foundations of the interstellar economy.

An Agricultural World is a world on which foodstuffs (...of many kinds: plant, animal, and otherwise) can be grown and produced. These foodstuffs are suitable for conventional life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Two of the most urgent key needs for a new colony are living space and adequate foodstuffs. Even at TL-15, agricultural worlds play an important part in the interstellar economy.
Agricultural worlds located on Garden Worlds are considered vastly valuable. A single garden world can often supply the nutritional needs of dozens of planets if connected to the interstellar commerce system.
