Cablu is an agricultural world with an ideal environment for producing food from plants, animals, or other lifeforms. The system has a population between 100,000 and 10 million sophonts. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Shallows Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Cablu, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and the fiefdom of a baron. Both are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. During the Long Night this world was named Innag.

Astrography and planetology[edit]

Cablu is located on the Vilani Main.

Beyond its many marvelous cathedrals and monuments to the saints, Cablu is perhaps best known for its magnificent Tkighir.

Cablu has a solitary primary star.

Native Lifeform: Tkighir[edit]

Cablian Tkighir is a native mammal carnivore which can measure up to 4 meters long from nose to tail and can weigh up to 320 kilograms. Armed with sharp, raking claws and canines as long as a man's forefinger, it is Cablu's ultimate predator.

Until the early 900s the man-eating Tkighir was freely hunted by trigger-happy sportsmen and by smugglers who sold various parts of the creature to off-worlders as folk medicine. In 905 the number of Tkighirs still roaming free had fallen to less than 500 and the local government established sanctuaries to protect the creature from extinction. Within a couple of decades the Tkighir's numbers had largely recovered. Unfortunately this also meant that it had outgrown some of the smaller sanctuaries and was once more attacking and killing people from the surrounding settlements.

The government is currently examining ways that man and Tkighir can coexist peacefully.

Tkighir Advisory:

One protection that visitors can take if they wish to enter the Jungle regions is to wear masks on the back of their heads. Natives claim that because the Tkighir prefers to attack from behind the masks confuse the animal sufficiently so that it will issue a challenge before attacking, allowing the guides sufficient time to prepare for any eventuality.

History and Background[edit]

Cablu was initially part of Makhidkarun's land grant to the Universal Church of God but, over the centuries, there has been a peaceful blending of cultures so that today many of the Church's great artisans originate from the Lancian colonies on Cablu.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Cablu has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Cablu has a population of 100,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Languages[edit]

World Government (G)[edit]

Cablu is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

World Military[edit]

Most Lancians do not like the idea of permanent military forces, and even less the idea of serving in them. As a result, most standing forces, the Pulehov, are small and often composed of non-Lancians. In times of war, the combined Lancian community -- the peoples' army, the Silkku -- is the ultimate defense of this and other Lancian worlds.

Law[edit]

Lancian courts, called Ammeinha, are made up of 13 person "benches", a combined judiciary and jury, similar to Solomani Courts Martial. Each district's Ammeinha reflects the district demographics. The emphasis is very much on trial by one's peers.

World Culture[edit]

There is a two-tier system of Lancian marriage. At the first level, marriage is seen as an arrangement for procreation and can be expected to be dissolved once any children are weaned. The second tier is a bond for life, and its breaking is a major trauma in Lancian society. Often such "high" marriages grow out of the partners' final "low" marriage.

  • Laws of child custody are simple; first-born to same sex parent, then alternate parent.
