Description

The Region is home to the the Lancian minor human race, as well as sentients of many races who follow the Lancian philosophy and way of life.

“In the generally aggressive, competitive, and profiteering space of the Imperium,
Lancia offers a more creative, considered, and pastoral way."

Lancia has a system of guilds, called Tariil, to support the arts and crafts. Given the importance of arts and crafts in Lancian societies these guilds have great influence. Almost every active Lancian is a member of at least one such guild.

Demographics

Species with considerable populations within the Lancian Cultural Region include:

The S'mrii culture of Dagudashaag Sector settled three worlds of the region -- Mizorskua'mr, Urssursfa, and Chzaar -- and S'mrii can be found on many others. The S'mrii's immediate influence extends out to Ivahllo and Bearnagh. The S'mrii and Kukhunen found themselves allies in a joint struggle against Vilani oppression over 4,000 years ago. This alliance was forged again between the S'mrii and the Lancians after the Long Night in the struggle against Imperial expansion which resulted in the Pacification Campaigns. The greatest fruit of co-operation between the two races, however, is in the fields of cybertechnology and nanotechnology. The S'mrii are the inventors and the Lancians the designers and marketeers.

Languages

  • Anglic: One of the two official languages of the Imperium.
  • Ga-ray-cha: The primary language of the Graytch, a common secondary language on worlds frequented by that species.
  • Kehuu: The primary Lancian language, as common on the worlds of the Cultural Region as Anglic or Vilani.
  • Sfuizia: S'mrii Interlanguage, used on the S'mrii worlds with minor, secondary usage elsewhere.
  • Ushi: A language derived from a mix of Anglic, Vilani and other influences, used throughout Gushemege Sector.
  • Vilani: One of the two official languages of the Imperium

History & Background

The Lancian Cultural Region on the Vilani Main. Regions depicted in blue are Imperial sub-polities; the Lancian Region is the larger (the smaller is the Amec Trade Protectorate). Red is the border of the Third Imperium. Green is the varied nations of the Vargr Extents.

Empress Arbellatra created the Lancian Cultural Region in 639 in recognition of the Lancians' support of her during the Civil War.

Previously the Lancian Cultural Region had been extensively ravaged by the Vilani during the Pacification Campaigns, and the Lancians have resented Vilani influences ever since. The region was resettled from the Vland Sector under a special program sponsored by Makhidkarun. After 639 many Lancians returned to claim their heritage, creating ongoing tension with the Vilani settlers.

Timeline

Worlds & Sectors (Astrography)

This Imperial Cultural Region is primarily found in the following areas:
Charted Space:

Sahee and Jonosva are examples of Lancian worlds where local conditions affect Lancian art and lifestyles. Jonosva's methane-ammonia hydrosphere and its towering ice mountains inspired a unique style in Lancian architecture, of towering crystal structures contrasted to the dark of the insiduous flows. On the waterworld of Sahee, unique surface and underwater floating habitats have been designed. The world-ocean also permeates the thinking of the Sahee, whose society is more uniform and flowing than on many other Lancian worlds.
