Mainworld Data[edit]

World Starport (Sp)

Upag has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Size (S)

Upag is a Small World between 4,000km and 5,600km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.24G and 0.34G. The horizon will appear about 3km away.

Upag has a pressure of less than 0.1 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

World Hydrosphere (H)

Upag has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

World Population (P)

Upag has a population of 10,000,000,000 sophonts (tens of billions).

World Government (G)

Upag has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Law Level (L)

Upag has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Technology Level (TL)

Upag possesses a Technology Level of TL–15 or TL-F in Hexadecimal Notation.

Imperial Landed Nobility (N)

Upag, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdoms of two members of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Upag is a major manufacturing centre for the design and production of advanced computer processing chips. The planet has received wide renown for its ability to successfully combine S'mrii and Lancian innovation and technical flair with Imperial manufacturing know-how. Several competing megacorporations have been established on Upag for centuries and each have their own independent cities and manufacturing sites under the surface of the planet. Each enclave considers itself a separate 'nation' and governs its territory accordingly.

This has resulted over the years in a great deal of tension existing between the various city-states and, as a result, industrial espionage between the various companies is rife.

Point of Interest: Virtual Retirement[edit]

Upag has a secondary claim to fame; as the retirement capital of Dagudashaag. Over 76% of the population are geriatrics that have retired to Upag and now 'live' a life of virtual reality· maintained 'youth', while their physical requirements are sustained by computerized life support systems. Such retirement is not cheap but several of the megacorporations and Dagudashaag wide companies now include retirement to Upag as part of their corporate pension package.

World Culture[edit]

There is a two-tier system of Lancian marriage. At the first level, marriage is seen as an arrangement for procreation and can be expected to be dissolved once any children are weaned. The second tier is a bond for life, and its breaking is a major trauma in Lancian society. Often such "high" marriages grow out of the partners' final "low" marriage.

  • Laws of child custody are simple; first-born to same sex parent, then alternate parent.
