• Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
• It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
• As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
• This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
• It is a member of the Lancian Cultural Region, a sub-polity of the Third Imperium, located in the Isi Ahto Subsector of Gushemege Sector.

• This world has an Imperial Scout base, capable of handling IISS starships and personnel.
• This world has a colony at Rutkowski.

Masa is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Masa has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. This atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds, which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Masa has 05-15% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

History & Background (Dossier)

During the Nth Interstellar War, Masa was devastated by nuclear bombardment, and after the war the Solomani transferred the capital to Kamurinmur (Gushemege 2224) in -2204. Masa never really recovered from the bombardment and loss of status. Although it maintains a high population and is an industrial exporter, there is little zest for life and this small, arid world is considered a poor and depressing place.

Masa, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdoms of two members of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

• circa -250,000: the Ancients transplant humans onto the world of Kukhun.
• -9235: the Vilani discover jump drive technology, and over the centuries pioneers and settlers gradually spread across Charted Space. The Kukhunen culture acquires jump technology from these wanderers.
• circa -5400: the Vilani Consolidation Wars - the Kukhunen region is eventually conquered.
• -4045 to -2204: the Ziru Sirka claims and settles worlds across the region.
• -2404 to -2215: the Interstellar Wars.
• -2204 to -1776: the Rule of Man administers the worlds of the region.
• -1776 to 0: the Long Night. There is widespread regression within the area and some worlds become barren.
• circa -1700: the reemergent Kukhunen region gradually collapses into civil war.
• -1200: the Lancian movement rises to dominance on Kukhun and within Kukhunen space. Few ships are available throughout the period but limited contact is maintained.
• -143: the Lancians gain modern jump technology from Sylean traders and use it to establish the Lancian Confederation.
• The Year 0: the Third Imperium is founded. There are frictions with the Lancians.
• 76-84: the Vilani Pacification Campaign results in the absorbtion of the Confederation.
• 300-420: the Imperial First Survey charts the system.
• 604-622: the Civil War.
• 624: the Express Boat Network is established.
• 639: the Lancian Cultural Region is established.
• 995-1065: the Imperial Second Survey charts the system.
• 1065: the Second Survey is published. Information about the system becomes widely available.
