Minor Human Races are distinguished from major human races by the assertion that minor human races didn't discover jump drive on their own, while major races have.
Description[edit]
A Minor Human Race is a human population whose ancestors were believed to have been planted on a world of their own by the Ancients around -300,000 and who developed separately from other human-inhabited worlds until it was eventually contacted by a star-faring society.
As well as the three human sub-species that are recognized as Major Races, there are at least 46 others known to Imperial science and classified as minor races (though some dispute this classification). Many human races are indistinguishable from each other even though it is widely believed that they all originated with a small gene pool and/or developed in extreme environments developing unique characteristics.
One additional classification is Variant Human Race, one that has been genetically altered since the Ancients scattered Humaniti. The Solomani, in particular, have applied genetic engineering to their own race a number of times. Often these new human races are erroneously classified as minor races, whether or not they are descended from a major race. They are also referred to as chimeras. An example of such a Variant might be the Bye-Ren.

History[edit]
The Sword Worlders and inhabitants of the Islands Cluster subsectors are not minor human races, even though they did evolve their societies while separated from the mainstream of human society because they were not planted by the Ancients.
Likewise, geneered races like the Jonkeereen are not considered minor human races by some but are sometimes referred to as Variant Human Races.
