Varen's Planet is a poor, industrial, high-population desert world, with a billion or more sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- This world has no free-standing water.
- As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
- This world is a member of the Trelyn Domain (the Duchy of Trelyn) located in the Trelyn Subsector of Vanguard Reaches Sector.
- It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- This world-system has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships, which may be located on or off-world.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Varen's Planet has a solitary primary star.
- It is a turbulent white subgiant.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x9 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
There are rumors that a small, artificial sphereworld is located in this system. [2]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Varen's Planet is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Varen's Planet has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences high temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Varen's Planet has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Satellites[edit]
Varen's Planet retains three small moons.
- They orbit once every few weeks.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant desert-adapted native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Native lifeforms are thermophilic - they thrive in high temperatures.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Varen's Planet is believed to be the home system of the Asderonti. They are known as wanderers within the region but their homeworld has never been officially identified.
- It is rumored that they inhabit hidden communities on one of the mainworld's moons rather than on the mainworld itself.
- Some even claim that the moon might be a hollow world or possibly a tent world...
World Starport (St)[edit]
Varen's Planet has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The world is host to a Trelyn Naval Base.
World Population (P)[edit]
Varen's Planet has a population of 1,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
- About 95% of the population (almost a billion individuals) are humans of Zhodani, Vlazhdumecta, and Imperial heritage.
- It is believed that around 5% of the population (close to 50 million individuals) are native Asderonti, though this is entirely speculation.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
- Local languages descended from Vlazhdumecta.
- Riftian Anglic, one of the two primary languages of the Imperium.
- Zdetl, the language of the Zhodani and the Zhodani Consulate.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Varen's Planet possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World Government (G)[edit]
Varen's Planet is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
- Varen's Planet directly controls the world Dysitin 2.
World Law (L)[edit]
Varen's Planet has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 4 (unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 4 (scarce)
- Labor: 8 (hundreds of millions)
- Infrastructure: 6 (limited)
- Efficiency: +1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: C (fragmented)
- Acceptance: D (very xenophilic)
- Strangeness: 2 (typical)
- Symbols: F (extremely abstract)
