Their homeworld is unknown. The Swanfeh migrated from this homeworld during the Long Night to the Beta quadrant of Gateway Sector, in time founding the Swanfei Free Worlds.

They achieved a starfaring culture of some influence, spreading out to control around 30 worlds before gradually losing their technology over a period of centuries. The Swanfeh were isolated on several worlds when other Humans entered Gateway Sector, and either allied with or were conquered by various opportunist newcomer groups.

The Swanfeh are the most populous demographic in the loose interstellar polity known as the Swanfei Free Worlds.

The Swanfei Free Worlds has jurisdiction over nine worlds with an estimated combined population of 1 billion, a per capita income of Cr2,738, and a total economy of BCr3,535. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr36 through 8 starports (0 Class A, 3 Class B, 4 Class C, 1 Class D) employing 14,560 people. Driving this interstellar trade are three Agricultural (Ag) worlds, two Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, two Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, four Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, and three Rich (Ri) worlds. The Swanfei Free Worlds has an estimated population of 1 billion distributed across two Moderate population (Ph) worlds and four Non-industrial (Ni) worlds. The highest population worlds are Pirate's Haven (Gateway 2819) and Sandhaven (Gateway 2918). The population consists primarily of Humans, with minorities of several other species.
