These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr129 through 23 starports (2 Class A, 8 Class B, 7 Class C, 6 Class D) employing 51,790 people. Driving this interstellar trade are three Agricultural (Ag) worlds, one Non-Agricultural (Na) world, two Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, one Pre-Industrial (Pi) world, seven Rich (Ri) worlds, and one Industrial (In) world. The governments in Riftin maintain four Naval bases. The average technology level is 8 (with most between 6 and 10). Riftin, subsector L of Gateway, contains 31 stars and 261 identified planets; 18 monostellar systems, five binary systems, one trinary system, and no systems with four or more stars. 20 of the 24 systems (83%) have native gas giants. There are no Asteroid (As) belts, no Desert (De) worlds, no Garden (Ga) worlds, one Ice-capped (Ic) world, one Poor (Po) world, no Vacuum (Va) worlds, and five Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) worlds.

Riftin has an estimated population of 1 billion distributed across one High population (Hi) world, two Moderate population (Ph) worlds, 14 Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, five Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Sardis (Gateway 2630). The population consists primarily of 2 sophont groups.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

This area contains much of what is known as the Renkard Worlds.

The term "Four Subsectors" is frequently used within Gateway Sector to refer to Ashton, Castra, Forcett, and Riftin subsectors. Specifically, it refers to the various independent worlds in these subsectors, those not aligned with the Plavian League, the Trindel Confederacy, or the Megusard Corporate. This region carries a particular notoriety for piracy and lawlessness.

The Human race known as the Swanfeh migrated from an unknown homeworld during the Long Night into this region. They achieved a starfaring culture of some influence, spreading out to control around 30 worlds before gradually losing their technology over a period of centuries. The Swanfeh were isolated on several worlds when other Humans entered Gateway Sector, and either allied with or were conquered by various opportunist newcomer groups.
