Silest is a preindustrial water world.

  • Its surface is 90% or more covered in an ocean of water.
  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • As a preindustrial world, this planet cannot yet manufacture enough high-technology resources to support a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the massive extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
  • It is a member of the Renkard Union in the Riftin Subsector of Gateway Sector.
  • This world has a nearby Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
  • This world is now occupied and is under the direct rule of a K'kree polity, the Lords of Thunder.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Silest has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Silest has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Silest was the capital of the former Renkard Union, prior to its conquest by the Lords of Thunder.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Silest has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Silest has a population of 50,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Silest possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Silest has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Law (L)[edit]

Silest has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

  • Note that the law has changed considerably under the Lords of Thunder occupation.
  • Though Silest is occupied by K'kree forces, enforcement of the new government's laws is carried out primarily by the Regulators, a paramilitary human force working for the K'kree and called "black jackets" by the populace at large.
